Successfully created a simulated Button, Intellipoint Optical, and more...

Post by expy37 »

New member here...

Background, have several PC's at various locations and we have been running Windows7 all this time [MS has been pushing updates and security updates all these years notwithstanding their splash screens to the contrary] and finally security updates stopped on 2-26-2025 so I decided to bite the bullet and learn to use Win11 since everyone else is using it and it's time to teach me and my SO to get with the times.

All the Asus boards I used to build up PC's about 2016 and 2017 and Intel CPU's won't run Win11 so started building up the first 2 PCs with Asus H610M-E D4 boards because I can reuse the Dimm4 memory and most everything else except have to buy new CPU's and started with an i5 12400F. [I bought an "F" suffix and spent a day trying to figure out why there were no graphics and discovered the "F" versions don't support graphics].

Tonight I discovered MS stopped supporting the Intellipoint Optical mouse that we are addicted to because I set up the 5 buttons to include forward, the wheel button is 'back' and the 5th button is supposed to be 'CLOSE' [tabs and window] and this is fantastically fast to navigate with.

Except with Win11 the 'close' button [5th] that used to close tabs and finally the window, closed the entire window unlike Win7, i.e. if multiple tabs were open in Firefox, everything closed, unlike in Win7 where tabs closed in sequence and then finally the window closed.

Figured out how to simulate a CTRL w [close Tab], and after all tabs close the window closes, so now the mouse seems to function fine like in Win7 and for those who need to alter their button functions it turned out to be easy to use this Button Simulation tool.

The Intellipoint Optical is a great mouse, I bought more used on eBay a few weeks ago, and must have 15+ of them.

Phillip your program is a great help [check your donations] and allowed us to continue to use our mice! Your might want to add a CTRL + w in the function list.

Many thanks.

I'm glad that you both find XMBC useful - it's always nice to read such messages, especially because - the majority of the posts are to report problems - not that there is anything wrong with that, its kind'a the main point of the forums I guess, well that and to help others with suggestions and solutions :).

And thanks very much for the very generous donation - much appreciated.
