Assign Mouse button 4 to do a "T"

Post by bibbis »

Hey there,

At the moment in the Battlefield 3 beta, I can't assign my "Mouse button 4/5" to anything.
The game can't recognize them. (YET)

So I was hoping that X-Mouse can help me with that, but I don't know what to do.

Can I maybe somehow assign "Mouse Button 4", in X-Mouse Button Control's configuration, to give the computer the same signals as if I was pressing the T key?
(T is the button I use to turn ON/OFF the tactical light on my weapon, that would be great to have on the mouse)

Any ideas?^^

Hi, for button 4, select simulated keystrokes, and in the window that pops up, enter T in the text field. You might have to select "During" mode depending on how you want the game action to work.

Thanks,
Phil

Yes! That is exactly what I want!

But strangely, it doesn't work :?

When I assign Button 4 to simulate T in the "Default" profile, it really does type a T when I click the button.
So how come it doesn't work in-game?

Could be all sorts of things :(

For example, some games don't accept injected keys (to prevent cheating etc.) and sometimes XMBC can send the key too quickly so the game misses it in its key handler.

To test if XMBC is being too fast, try using "during" mode, and try adding a delay e.g. {WAITMS100}. Play with the number to see if it makes any different. This isn't ideal as the delay can cause mouse "lag" but at least it will give us some indication of where the problem is and if anything can be done about it.

Also, try some of the other sim key methods to see if they make any difference.

Is battlefield 3 an open beta? if so, maybe I can try it here and see what I can find (not tonight though - it will probably have to wait till Sunday at least).

Thanks,
Phil

Oh, using "during" works! :)

Yes it is open beta, you should totally check it out anyway! ;D

Thank you for your help :)
