Beta Testers Wanted

Post by phil »

I have been working on the next version of XMBC.

Its almost ready, but before I put it out to the masses, I want to get a few more users putting it through its paces. Right now MainTrane has been the main driver of this version and has helped considerably with the testing, but one user does not offer such a wide spectrum of usage.

The main new features are:
  • Better use of multi-threading to improve performance.
  • Application specific profiles extended to support individual windows and their controls, allowing you to change button mappings for any window on your system.
  • Activation of profiles simply by moving the mouse over them.
  • Improved SimKey {WAIT...} functionality
  • Simulated keystroke send method 'Sticky-Hold', mainly for locking down modifier keys.
  • Redesign of the advanced scrolling, now attached to the profiles.
  • Default profile's settings are now inherited by newly added profiles.
  • Ability to describe/customize the name of profiles.
  • Reset button clears a layer's button mappings, passing them through to the default profile.
  • Ability to import/export profiles, with file association allowing import simply by downloading/opening a file, thus allowing me (or anyone) to publish profiles online that others can "install".
  • Added new pre-configured drop-down-settings for button mappings.
  • Apply button logic with confirmation on exit to prevent loss of modified settings.
  • An updated GUI to tie it all together.

If you think you find a bug, let me know in this thread or via PM. and just to be clear, right now, I'm not looking for change requests unless its related to a bug.

Below are three examples of window mapping profiles, which can be imported into the beta build by simply opening the file.
Taskbar (Running Apps Area).xmbcs
Scroll Wheel - cycle through the taskbar items
Button 4 - launch task manager
Button 5 - minimize all but the active window.
Taskbar (SysTray Media Control).xmbcs
Scroll Wheel - volume up/down
Middle Button - mute
Button 4 - previous track
Button 5 - next track
Windows Live Photo Gallery (Viewer Controls).xmbcs
Scroll Wheel - cycle through photos
Middle Button - exit viewer (ESC)
Button 4 - toggle fit-to-screen/actual-size
Button 5 - image properties

Phil

XP SP2 32bit here, with a lot of hooks installed, if it works for me it should work for everyone. Where is the link?

It's beyond good, very intuitive and user friendly. XMBC is now v2, IMO.
Let me know if you find any hiccups.
No hiccups for now, just some visual glitches which you are probably aware of.
If you press right mouse button, 4th and 5th button in the main window they will stay highlighted (orange color), and some spelling mistakes in "Specific window" window. Let me know if you need screenshots.

Btw, in May I will have some suggestions, nothing big just some fine tunning, etc.

Take care

Sweet... I was considering making the release v2 cos there are some big changes as you have seen. I'm not sure how that will go yet - I want a few more users testing it for now just in case.

Thanks for the initial feedback :)

I have seen this, but Im not able to make it happen at will. Is there anything imparticualr you have noticed that makes it stay highlighted?

I think i got the spelling mistakes (when I actually read what I had written lol).

Solved, this was conflict with some other app I use.
I think i got the spelling mistakes (when I actually read what I had written lol).
There is one more in the "Find window" (fileds) and in the "Settings" (RECCOMENDED).

Cheers

I have updated the beta once again. The link now points to 1.53.9 (beta).
Here are the changes:
  • #ID1: Fixed bug in simkeys where modfier keys would not always get sent.
  • #ID3: Fixed issue with "same as default" option and layer modifiers.
  • #ID3: Fixed spelling mistake in find window dialog and settings dialog.
  • #ID6: Export single item now sets the default filename (to the item name).
  • #ID7: Fixed when editing profiles, changes were not reflected in GUI.
  • #ID8: Fixed bug (introduced with new threading model) that broke simkey repeat, and any other timer funciton in the mouse hooks.
  • #ID9: Added ability to use default windows keyboard repeat delay and speed for repeated sim-keys.
  • #ID10: Fixed missing file association for .XMBCS files (installation issue).
NOTE: The #ID's refer to my new bug tracking system (which is not public just yet).
Hopefully we are almost there :)

Hello,

I am using 1.53.9 (beta)

And I have 2 issues so far.

First issue is with setting the "Lines to scroll with wheel"

I can not get it to work with iTunes scrolling. I am talking about when scrolling the albums in Cover Flow view.

It can disable scrolling in iTunes but when I change it to a different number then the default which is 3 iTunes scroll wheel remains scrolling at 3 lines. I want to change it to 1 so I can scroll 1 album at a time.

My second issue is at random times the whole X-Mouse Button Control UI freezes. And I can not even right click on the system tray icon to open the menu. So what I need to end up doing is opening task Manager and click end Process.

After more testing it almost seems like "changing Lines to scroll" is not working at all. Not just iTunes but the whole computer.

I am going to reinstall X-Mouse Button Control Version 1.53 and see if it starts working again.
