lock axis, how?

Does this work for anyone? Doesn't seem to do anything here, USB Logitech MX-518, Win 7 Pro 64

Well it works fine for me - but then I wouldn't have released XMBC with this feature if it was not working for me.

Perhaps you have found a bug or perhaps your configuration is not quite right. Maybe if you explain a little about how you have configured XMBC to use the axis locking modifier keys I will be able to point you in the right direction, or at least try similar configurations here?

For example,

Have you enabled modifier keys in the settings?
What modifier keys have you assigned to lock X and lock Y?
Do you have any other modifier keys - do the modifier keys work to change layers?
Have you checked the "enable axis locking modifier keys" check-box on the application configuration you are targeting?

I admit that the configuration is not exactly intuitive, which is why the note exists on the modifier keys tab.

OK, settings - general tab, I have enable global hotkeys TICKED, enable modifier keys (switching layers & axis locking) TICKED. Settings - modifier keys tab, I have "Lock X-axis" set to shift+control+alt+L, and "lock Y-axis" set to SHIFT+CONTROL+K, and on each change I hit OK then "apply" on the application configuration screen, and nothing happens, MX-518 optical, USB connection, Windows 7 Pro/64 native drivers (no logitech installed)

Have you checked the enable lock key in the main screen for the selected application (or default).

This setting is application specific, allowing you to onlye enable the lock keys in certain application profiles if required.

yes, enabled on the default, tested on an empty desktop

Well that is strange, I just reied exactly that configuration on my laptop and its working fine for me.
Also x64 Win7, no special drivers installed.

I presume that it makes no difference what key combination you use?

Can you try turning on debug logging and see if there is anything useful in there (I think it logs the key presses for locking). The only other possibility is that its broken in 1.52 and fixed in the latest beta - but if I recall correctly, I have not touched the locking in the beta. I will have to get back on the desktop and check that - so for now a debug log would be useful.

That logging does not look like debug logging but standard logging (turn it on the the general settings tab). It automatically turns off next time you run xmbc to save resources.

I dont generally use the modifier keys - they are there at the requiest of others, but as I say, I just tried the ones you told be - and they worked here (typical!).

What version are you running (I cant remember if I sent you the beta when we were testing the other problem you have with firefox and win-z (which Im sorry I still havnt really looked at).

Actually, while were talking about it... do the layer modifier keys work - say if you set CTRL+2 to switch to laeyer 2 (while the combo is held down) does that seems to do anything?

And just to confirm, you are holding down the keys - the lock only applies while the keys are actually held down. (and there should be a little debug log f it gets that far - so Im assuming its not getting there). As soon as you release the keys, the lock will be removed.

Now the keys work in 1.53 (log below), BUT...having to hold the ALT-K/ALT-L down while using it is counter-intuitive? (And awkward). Shouldn't it be a toggle on/off? Say for use ingame for sniping, precision platform moves etc? There's also a button 4 press right at the bottom, which actually worked perfectly in 'fox, but it does 60% of the time, so may not be fixed as yet:

I'm glad its working It may be counter-intuitive (I knew you would say something like that ) but it is what was requested. I agree that it might well be sensible to have a hotkey type toggle to lock axis as well. But the "modifier" keys are designed to work only when held, where as the global hotkeys are toggle.

I will see if I can add some extra global hotkeys to toggle locks.

I'm glad you like the icon - I've got used to it now and I like it much more than the old one - that looks rubbish when going back

As for the 'fox problem, I have not made any changes for that - I wonder is its timing related (and thus affected by the debug logs) - I suspected this before but haven't had a chance to investigate properly. I cant remember but did we try adding any delays in the simulated keystrokes (eg. {waitms:50})?
