Hello,
Every time I start my pc, I'm getting these two errors. If I close the app and start again, there is no error. I completely uninstalled and installed the app again but no luck. How can I fix this?

Re: Errors on PC start
Where, and how did you install XMCB (installer or portable version - I presume installer)?
And what version of XMBC is it, what version of Windows is it - and so on...
I have to ask, because you failed to fill in the post template as requested in the posting rules - maybe next time you could actually fill in the provided posting template!!
Both errors suggest that the .exe (XMouseButtonControl.exe) file is not in the same location as the .DLL files (two of them, XMouseButtonHook.dll and BugTrapU-x64.dll). If you used the installer, these should be under C:\Program Files\Highresolution Enterprises\X-Mouse Button Control) Have a look and see whats in the folder.
If you used the portable version and linked it in startup, find where the executable file is linked to and make sure the DLL's are in the same folder.
If its working the second time you open it, that would suggest either the first time the files are not available (a network or online synced folder?), or the second time, you are loading it from another folder maybe? Usually XMBC is started (if installed using the installer) by a link in the registry - You should be able to see it in task manager (startup tab) - but I'm not 100% sure if it gives the full paths in there - you can right click XMouseButtonControl in the startup tab (make sure there is only one entry in there) and select Open file location to open the folder in explorer (assuming your on Windows 10/11 - I'm just guessing there!

Re: Errors on PC start
Sorry.
I have the v2.20.5 installed.
Not a portable version.
Windows 10 x64.
It's installed in C:\Program Files\Highresolution Enterprises\X-Mouse Button Control.
Windows hasn't been updated.
I have been using the app for a few months.
English Qwerty keyboard.
Unbranded wireles mouse.
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700 CPU @ 3.00GHz 3.00 GHz.
Installed RAM: 32.0 GB.
I actually have those dlls under the installation folder. I have just noticed that there are two xmouse on startup. One of them was in the start up folder. I deleted that one and will check it again and give you an update. Thanks.

Re: Errors on PC start
Ok I remember what happened. When I start my pc, the XMBC doesn't automatically start, so I added it to Windows Start. After removing it from there, the problem has been resolved but how can I make the app start with Windows?

Re: Errors on PC start
When you install XMBC, it should add itself to the startup settings for your user account. If you installed it as a different user, maybe its not starting for your user account (I cant remember if it uses the local machine or current user startup keys by default).
So first, try reinstalling and see if that fixes it. If not, check the startup tab in task manager to make sure X-Mouse Button Control is not disabled in there?

Re: Errors on PC start
I didn't change the user and did a few fresh installs but it still does not start on boot. When I check the programs on startup, I see two Xmouse instances, and when I check the registry, Xmouse is in two different startup registry locations. Which one should I delete?

Re: Errors on PC start
OK The installer should be putting it in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run which should make it run for all users.
What is the value of the "XMouseButtonControl" in there? it should be something like:
C:\Program Files\Highresolution Enterprises\X-Mouse Button Control\XMouseButtonControl.exe /notportable /delay
And what's the values in the current user key? You can probably safely delete the current user key.

Re: Errors on PC start
OK the one in HKLM, with the /notportable and /delay tags is what the installer puts in - having the other one in current user (I dont know how that got there?!) might cause problems, at least it might cause XMBC to open a second time - and thus show the settings screen. I'd delete the entry from HKCU and see if that makes any difference first!

Re: Errors on PC start
Deleting one of the registry keys didn’t fix the issue. After some research, I found that the app should install a service called **XMouseButtonSvc.exe**, but it’s missing from the installation folder even after uninstalling, restarting the PC, and performing a clean install.
The list of the files in the folder:
BugTrapU-x64.dll
ChangeLog.txt
License.txt
uninstaller.exe
X-Mouse Button Control User Guide.pdf
XMouseButtonControl.exe
XMouseButtonHook.dll

Re: Errors on PC start
Yeh, was that AI based research??!! I'm only asking because that is over 10 years old now! The service, back in the day, was a trick to try and defeat UAC and run XMBC with admin permissions without having Windows ask you every time... Before I found that signing the software with an official software signing certificate was the answer, allowing XMBC to run as an accessibility tool, in non-admin mode, without requiring any special fixes, other than myself paying ~$80 a year to buy the certificates required to do so.
The service was retired a long time ago!
I fear we (or maybe just me) are loosing the topic here right now. The installed version of XMBC should, these days, only ever be launched by the local machine registry key. That key points to the folder (and single executable in said folder) to tell Windows to start it automatically at start up. Being in HKLM, it should run for all users on the computer at start up.
The contents of your folder are all good, exactly the same as mine - just as it should be.
I'm at a loss now as to what to suggest!

Re: Errors on PC start
Yeah, it was. It's so strange. I even created a task with the Task Scheduler on Windows, and when Windows starts, it shows that the task was started successfully. XMBC is on the Windows Startup list, and I can see that XMBC is running in the Task Manager. However, the app is not visible in the Windows tray and the mouse buttons don't work as I remapped them. It appears not to have been launched. Once I click on the app manually, then it starts. Weird one. I even ran the SCF scan and Windows deployment commands, but no luck. Thanks for your help anyway.
