Sticky hold feature not working

Post by jonnysam90 »

Please fill in this template when posting!
XMBC Version 2.20.5
Installed version
Windows 11
TetraMouse Model TMXA2
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz RAM: 32 GB
Did the problem occur after an upgrade of XMBC? No
Did the problem occur after a Windows update/upgrade? I don't believe so
How long have you used XMBC? approx. 3-4 years
What language and keyboard layout do you use in Windows? English

The "sticky hold" feature for simulated keys is no longer working. As of a couple weeks ago, it was working fine. An example is that I want the enter/return key to be held. It seems to only hold for about 1 second even without pressing the button again. I need the feature for certain games. However, "sticky hold" isn't working with keys period. Any ideas why it stopped working?

So if it was working a couple of weeks ago, what changed?
It certainly wasn't XMBC as v2.20.5 is almost 2 years old now?
Maybe maybe it is still "physically" doing the same thing, but the games changed to block it (anti-cheat type of thing?) I dunno.
Can you use a site like this to visualize the keyboard inputs? It should show both mouse buttons and what the keyboard keys are doing (as far as the OS is concerned).

I am really not sure what changed. I went to the keyboard testing site and it shows that the Keys are being held down. However, that is the only place where it shows it being held down. It does not stay Held down on any of the applications on my computer. It seems to only push the key once and then release.

Well that is odd... If the website shows the key as being held down, then windows is seeing the key as being held down which leads me back to the possibility that the game has been changed to not see it.
Its difficult to see with enter begin held down because that's does not really do much in any other windows application (holding down is not the same as auto-repeating which is what would happen if you physically held the enter key on the keyboard).
Not sure what else to recommend...

There were a couple windows 11 updates since the feature last worked. Do you think that could be the issue?

I am really happy with your program and it works for 99% of all the things I need, so I hate to ask, but do you know of any other programs out there that have the "sticky hold" feature if I cannot get it working again?

It could be, but I doubt it.... I need to get all my machines updated I guess, my main dev machine is still Win 10 (although I don't turn it on all that often these days lol). My surface and laptop are Win 11, but maybe not 24h2 (I think still 23h2 lol).

So I will have to check, but I think it wont help too much!
I'm afraid I cant help with other programs - mostly because I am out of touch - I don't know what else is out there - I need to find so,e time to sit down in front of my dev machine and actually fix/debug some stuff!!!!

Another tool I've found very helpful for troubleshooting is Windows' built-in Accessibility On-Screen Keyboard (a significantly different thing from the Tablet Mode "Touch" OSK, which is very unuseful). You can pull it up with ?+Ctrl+O.
Rather than disappearing, it sits always on top but lets you focus anywhere else you click. It will then show any keyboard activities which occur in real time, whether simulated or your actual hardware keyboard.

This tool should help you to diagnose what keys the game is actually seeing from the system, when.
PROTIP: You can resize the window, and in Options you can disable the numpad and navigation keys to further shrink it down.
