New ideas

Post by zenzon »

Hi everyone,

I’m new to this forum, so I hope this is an appropriate first post. I didn’t find any similar threads, so I thought I’d start one where we can brainstorm new ideas.

I have an idea that I haven’t seen in any other software so far. It’s quite simple: you bind a button on your mouse or keyboard. When you press and hold this button, you can make various movements with your mouse, such as circles, squares, or zigzags. The sizes and lengths of these movements can vary. Once you release the button, it triggers a “macro” (for lack of a better term). This macro could perform any action, like opening a keyboard under your mouse cursor or starting a program like Chrome. Essentially, the macro could do anything you want.

The beauty of this idea is that there are virtually infinite movements you can make with your mouse, creating a sort of spellbook of macros that you can use whenever you need them.

This concept could also be integrated into software like XMouse Button Control. But who knows?

Welcome,

You are talking about mouse "gestures".

There is software out there that can do this already (particularly some browser extensions for example), but it is not something XMBC can do right now. It was something that was on my to do list for about 15 years - I never have gotten around to it, primarily because it would require a significant amount of work (thus time) with potentially (not sure) complex maths/pattern recognition.

For a hobby project such as XMBC, I simply don't have the spare time for such effort, right now I'm struggling to find time even for minor changes/bug fixes in XMBC as it is!.

So while its a great idea, its not something that I personally can commit to at the moment.
Maybe when I don't have a full time job and other things going on in life, so I can find more time to spend on XMBC - but that's going to be soon!
