misassigned side keys?

Post by johntrine »

XMBC Version: v2.20.8
Installed or Portable version: installed
Windows Version: 10 home
Mouse Information (brand/model): inphic a1
Relevant Computer Information (CPU, RAM etc): asus tuf fx505dt
Did the problem occur after an upgrade of XMBC? (If so, from what version?): no
Did the problem occur after a Windows update/upgrade? (If so, from what version?): no
How long have you used XMBC?: 2 days
What language and keyboard layout do you use in Windows?: english US

the issue happened before installing XMBC and i installed this in order to solve the problem. in my mouse, when i press side button 4 and 5, they instead act as right click and middle click and the dpi button acts as left click. using XMBC doesnt solve the problem as XMBC picks them as clicking right and middle still. however pressing both side button at the same time shows button 4 and 5 being pressed.

Apologies for the delay, I have been away on holiday and subsequently recovering from jetlag!

Does the inphic a1 mouse have its own software configuration? For example, logitech devices come with software than can change button mappings (at a lower level) and sometimes the "defaults" are not windows defaults and need configuring to allow XMBC to be used

It sounds to me like the mouse by default is not sending the usual button messages to Windows (which XMBC relies on) and thus XMBC wont be much use, unless you can persuade the mouse to send the normal messages for each button. Although if sometimes it works, that sounds like either a mouse hardware issue or mouse driver issue. Does the mouse has a "custom" driver or is it using the standard Microsoft HID mouse driver (you can probably check this in device manager).

Thanks,
Phil

Well, if there is nothing else involved, then maybe the mouse itself (or the buttons on it) are faulty?
Without XMBC running (at all) do the buttons sometimes do stuff and other times, not work? Like button 4 and 5, which by default should go back/forward in your web browser... Do they always do that, or only sometimes do that?

Does it happen of different computers (with that mouse)?
Does another mouse (on that computer) work perfectly all the time?

I cant think of any other reasons.
