Scheduled Save Desktop Icon Layout

Post by MachineThatGoesP1ng »

This is a very handy hidden feature but i was wondering is there a hotkey to do this or a automatic scheduler to save my desktop layout?

Hi, sorry for the delay in replying, Ive been struggling rebuilding my laptop for a few days after it decided to corrupt itself after a windows (insider) update!

Yes, you have both options built right in...
In the global hotkeys (other) tab you can assign a hotkey (hotkeys only work when the setup screen is NOT open)
And you can launch XMBC with command line arguments (/? for a list) /saveicons (or /restoreicons to reload them) so you can setup a scheduled task to do this too if you wish!

Regards,
Phil

Thank you.

Is there a place where the saved layouts are stored?
Also, are there multiple layouts stored? I'd like to go through them like a history if necessary.

The positions are stored in the XCMBCSettings file if that's what you mean.
So yeh its the XML file that all XMBC settings are stored in (ctrl+left click the XMBC icon to take you to that folder).

No automatic schedule. But you can just setup a windows scheduled task to do it, as there are command line options, and one of the saves the desktop icons.

Multiple layouts, I honestly cant 100% remember. I seem to recall doing something (or was it that I was thinking about doing something) on that in regard to desktop resolutions (*but never quite getting it spot on if I recall). I borrowed (with permission) the code from Iconoid (which I ported to 64bit WIndows back in the day). Its quit simplistic but in reality, its been so long since I looked at that coded, I cant remember (and I don't really have the time to go looking right now). To be fair, XMBC is not *really* the place to do it, it was just convenient for myself to put it in there :)
