Logitech G305, not working without Logitech GHUB

Post by jacobidiego »

Please fill in this template when posting!
XMBC Version: 2.20.5
Installed or Portable version: Portable
Windows Version: 10
Mouse Information (brand/model): Logitech G305 - 6 buttons
Relevant Computer Information (CPU, RAM etc): Laptop intel i5, 16 GB ram, etc.
Did the problem occur after an upgrade of XMBC? (If so, from what version?): No
Did the problem occur after a Windows update/upgrade? (If so, from what version?): no
How long have you used XMBC?: Days
What language and keyboard layout do you use in Windows?: Spanish

Clear description of the problem - try and include as much information as possible, including what button and mappings you are having problems with (if applicable).:

I just decided to turn off the heavy and unstable Logitech GHUB to start using XBMC.
However, I noted that after shutting it down, it wasn't working.
If I open Logitech GHUB, it does works.

I just setup CTRL+C with button 5 and CTRL+SHIFT+V with button 4. That's all.
Is it possible to see if XBMC is able to catch the button presses somehow?
May it be a Windows driver issue?

I’ve got a g604 with GHub (I got it for testing) and I believe there are some issues with XMBC and the tilt wheel not working without gHub but I thought buttons 4 and 5 were ok - I use the mouse without GHub daily and not had any issues with button 4 and 5…

Do the combo boxes highlight in orange in XMBC setup screen?

It was working without GHUB after rebooting without it.
Now after some hours of normal work, it isn't anymore.
Comboboxes don't highlight anymore.
I will avoid closing it in case that you want to ask me for some tests.

Sorry was away this weekend (and the next few).
I really don't know how it can be working without G-Hub and then just stop working including highlighting.
The only reason I can think of for XMBC to stop responding the mouse messages, if it takes too long to respond to the Windows message hook, Windows can silently removing it (Windows does this without telling anyone so XMBC it self does not know) and therefore it simply does not receive further messages not know about it.

1. Check your hook timeout value (I think the default is rather low and I'd say try increasing it to 250ms or 500ms and see if that makes any difference.
(You need to reboot after changing it in the XMBC advanced settings tab)

2. Next time it happens, check the XMBC log file and see if there are any errors or warnings.

3. Next time it happens, turn on debug logging (You can setup a global hotkey to toggle debug logging on/off which makes it easier!). This will log every single mouse message going forward. It will also dump the previous 200 debug messages to the log file. That will at least prove XMBC is not getting the messages. I doubt it will help and tell us why though.

4. Next time it happens, try disabling XMBC and re-enabling XMBC either by right clicking the context menu, or setting up a global hotkey to enable/disable XMBC. That will reset/reinstall the mouse hook, so if that fixes it, then it probably is timing out (see 1.)

Regards,
Phil

OK, so it worked for a while until just now and came back to here.

I have checked the log but I am not able to say if there is something wrong or not.
I have closed the app, and opened it again, and it just worked.
I have now increased hook timeout from 200 to 300. (+50%)

If this continues, I will try with 500.
If it also doesn't fix it, I will let you know.

But seem that it has nothing to do with Logitech GHUB.

So far, your option (4) solves the issue every time it happens.

Leveraging hook timeout from 200 to 500, didn't solve it.

If you have any other tests I would be glad to help trying.

Otherwise, maybe a periodic reinstall of the mouse hook may help to avoid losing its functionality?
Is that achievable with todays version ?
