basic question about chording

Post by skypickle »

Please fill in this template when posting!
XMBC Version: 2.20.2
Installed or Portable version:installed
Windows Version: 10 pro
Mouse Information (brand/model): kensingtontrackball
Relevant Computer Information (CPU, RAM etc): ryzen 9,32 g ram
Did the problem occur after an upgrade of XMBC? (If so, from what version?):
Did the problem occur after a Windows update/upgrade? (If so, from what version?):
How long have you used XMBC?: 2 weeks
What language and keyboard layout do you use in Windows?: english

Clear description of the problem - try and include as much information as possible, including what button and mappings you are having problems with (if applicable).:Is it possible to assign two buttons as a 'chord' to send a simulated key (like ctrl-S for Save)?
I read this:
viewtopic.php?p=23172&hilit=chord#p23172
but did not understand it. I think I figured it out but am not sure
1) assign Left button to button chording (no change)
2)in the dialog that pops up, assign simulated keys to Right button
3)in the dialog that pops up enter the key combo, {ctrl}s

Although this works, there is a dropdown in the 'simulated key' dialog on how to send the simulated keystrokes. Where can I find a discussion on choosing the right item. Why for example would I want another thread? When would I choose #9?

Not sure there is a discussion. The various methods are described in the user manual!

The options to send in another thread (4 and 5) do exactly the same as 1 and 2 these days (it used to be different but now everything is done from another thread - so 4=1 and 5=2 - but I didn't remove them because some people may have been using them it was easier just to make them identical. Again this is covered in the user manual)

9 means the key is sent when you press the button down and sent again when you release the button - so I would guess you don't want that!

The link you posted was about combining button held (where it does different things depending on how long you hold the button for) and button chording, which is not possible!
