XMBC 2.20, 2.20.1, 2.20.2, 2.20.3, 2.20.4 Released

Post by phil »

I've just released X-Mouse Button Control version 2.20

Version 2.20 brings several new features and enhancements along with many bug fixes and minor changes.
It has been a long time since 2.19.2 was released, and a lot has happened in the world since then. Somehow I now have less time to spend on XMBC which is one of the reasons for the delay of 2.20, and also one of the reasons why I didn't manage to do everything I (or maybe others!) wanted in this version!

You can find the latest version (including the portable version) in the usual place, on the downloads page (mirror).

For a complete list of changes, check out the version history.
The user guide (included in the installation but not the automatic updates) can also be found here or here (mirror).
NOTE: I have updated the user guide to reflect some minor changes in 2.20 but the XMBC update does not include this (to keep the download sizes small). The URLs above will provide the latest version, as does the full installation package.

PLEASE NOTE: If you want something to be added or you have found a bug or you want help in setting up and using XMBC, please create a new topic of your own where your issues or ideas can be discussed. When doing this, please provide as much information as possible (see posting rules for details).

Once again, I would like to thank everyone who has helped me beta test this release, and the Mozilla Firefox developers for getting in touch regarding issues with the new version of Firefox (v110). As usual, special thanks to everyone providing/updating the language packs/translations. (B)

Re: XMBC 2.20 Released

Post by phil »

Hi all, firstly, thank you all for the donations, Ive been rather blown away by the amount of people that have been generous, there really isn't any need, especially in these tougher economic times around the world, but very appreciated none the less!

Since the release of 2.20 last week, I have been receiving regular crash reports, all pointing to the same problem. When your computer resumes from sleep, it is crashing while trying to get/set volume levels or be notified for a change in master audio devices (like plugging in a USB headset for example). I don't believe this is a new problem in 2.20 but I'm not 100% sure. It may well be related to the previous crashes/lockups when resuming from sleep that has been an ongoing quest to resolve since before 2.19 was released in 2020!). However, the frequency of these is surprisingly regular, and is happening to multiple people. Unfortunately, the bug reports do not capture the contact details so I cant contact any of the people suffering these crashes directly.

I believe I have found the problem, and I will attempt to fix it once and for all in 2.20.1 which I will probably release later today.

I have also fixed several other things, including broken scrolling with the scroll up/down button mappings after a silly/rushed mistake in the fix to make Firefox scroll properly (doh!)

EDIT: No - this strange crash on resume, relating to audio.volume management is still happening in 2.20.1.
If you have any crashes, please let me know here in a new thread/topic!
You can also get in touch directly at my new Discord server (I wont be on in 24/7 of course!).

I've just released X-Mouse Button Control version 2.20.2

Version 2.20.1 is a minor maintenance release to fix some issues found in 2.20. There are no new features, only fixes.
You can find the latest version (including the portable version) in the usual place, on the downloads page.

For a complete list of changes, check out the version history.

I'm still chasing down one particular crash that seems to happen when resuming from sleep, and only if you have A-Volute SonicStudio3 installed (which I believe is part of an audio driver package supplied with some motherboards/computers but am not 100% sure). I hope that 2.20.2 will be better, but if the crash still happens, I hope the new debug log history (which will be flushed to the log file when a crash report is generated) will further help diagnose what exactly is going on!

ERROR? Start menu entry missing
I've uninst. the 2.20 at first and afterwards deleted the user profile.
After fresh install of 2.20.1 the start menu entry ist still missing.
I've repeated a fresh install of the 2.20.1, same result.
Any idea?

No idea... no problems here apparently (win 10 & 11 - but using Start11 start menu!)
What version of Windows (not that it should make any difference).

Oh and why didn't you create a new topic as requested in the big bold red text!
PLEASE NOTE: If you want something to be added or you have found a bug or you want help in setting up and using XMBC, please create a new topic of your own where your issues or ideas can be discussed. When doing this, please provide as much information as possible (see posting rules for details).
I knew leaving the topic unlocked was a bad idea!

Re: XMBC 2.20, 2.20.1, 2.20.2, 2.20.3 Released

Post by phil »

FYI: 2.20.3 has just been released. It is identical to 2.21 Beta 6 so if you have that or later, no need for 2.20.3, nor will XMBC notify you of this new release as it considers 2.21 Beta 6 to be newer when doing version checks!
