[solved] layer stuck permanently, breaking default mouse functionality

XMBC Version: latest stable. Updated to latest beta and still not fixed
Installed or Portable version: installed
Windows Version: 21H2
Mouse Information (brand/model): Generic
Relevant Computer Information (CPU, RAM etc): 7100u, 8gb ram
Did the problem occur after an upgrade of XMBC? (If so, from what version?): No. It's random
Did the problem occur after a Windows update/upgrade? (If so, from what version?): No
How long have you used XMBC?: 6 months
What language and keyboard layout do you use in Windows?: EN-US

This has happened to me several times now. A layer would randomly get stuck and become permanently turned on and cannot be turned off. First time it happened nothing would fix it. Toggling the layers, disabling the offending layer (and applying), restarting, and even uninstalling the app completely didn't fix it. It randomly fixed itself on its own after some time.

It happened to me a second time but that particular layer wasn't too difficult to deal with, so I ignored it until it fixed itself.

Now it happened a third time and it seems to have broken my ability to use a very important mouse button in games, making it impossible to ignore.

I need a toggle to completely disable the app for when such issues arise. Otherwise it's far too unstable to use.

Great. I hadn't considered that the mouse model might be relevant until this forum's template prompted me about it. I unplugged and replugged the mouse, and it instantly got fixed.

I feel silly now, but I'm going to leave this up in case anyone finds it helpful. It's still strange that this happens to begin with.

I’m away at the moment so difficult to investigate in detail but the Scroll Lock key should (by default) when turned on, completely disable XMBC!
