Use mouse button as modifier key???

Post by hilarywilliam »

I want to use one of my extra mouse buttons as a modifier to do something like button+scrollup=home. But mouse buttons are not a choice in the modifier keys section to activate a layer.

I currently have {CTRL} as the layer 2 modifier key. I tried in layer1 to have the mouse button simulate {CTRL} but that didn't result in activated layer2.

OK for this you have two options...

Button Chording is probably the best option, and you don't need to use layers for that - it also has extra logic to drop the chord if the mouse is moved or after a delay, so that is where I would start.

You can also change layers using simulated keystrokes, by entering {layer1}, {layer2} etc into the simkey script window. That will allow you to switch layers from a button (permanently) or you should be able to simply select "layer 1 through 10 in the drop down to switch to that layer while the button is held (which has always been there, even before button chording was added - the disadvantage of this is you cant use the button for anything BUT switch layers, where as with button chording, you can specify the default action if the button is pressed without the second chorded button.

Thanks,
Phil
