Right Button will not function

During normal use, the scroll (wheel) control started uncontrollably flashing the scroll from top to bottom or vice versa...I replaced the batteries, and apparently that was it..it needed battery replacement...
However, I quickly discovered that the right button control will not function...no response at all on right clicks...on any application, and including the desktop...
Am using Win 7 32-bit...
Can anyone help with this?
