Minimize in rdp session - xmouse vs logitech vs microsoft

Post by dasfiend »

I was wondering about how you call minimize? The issue I'm having is that when I'm inside any application that captures the mouse, e.g. rdp, oracle virtualbox, the minimize does not minimize the entire rdp session or virtual as I would like. The minimize command appears to go poof into the ether as nothing is minimized in the remote session either.

Just a side note that may help with research: logitech setpoint behaves as I would like, while the microsoft mouse software does not (it works seemingly as xmouse).

P.S. I donated, love xmouse! :)

Hi, thanks for the donation :)
As for how minimize works, it uses a standard windows API I believe, which I'm surprised does not minimize the RDP session, maybe because it is fullscreen the window does not respond to the minimize.

I would not expect it to work with the remote session, ie minimize remote windows, I guess the logitewch one minimizes the local RDP session - I would have to use Spy++ or something simular to try and work out how it does that.

What would you actually want it to do? If you want it to minimize the local RDP window/fullscreen then I would expect that could be done with a little but of debugging and testing - I will add it to the todo list but no promises on timescales!

Thanks,
Phil

My personal preference (not sure if this would be shared by other users) would be to have it minimize the rdp client (local) window. Yes, the windows are maximized/fullscreen.

I use it with logitech mice as an easy way to get back to my local workstation (I'm an IT admin and I'm in and out of multiple rdp connections very frequently).

Thanks!

Yeh I understand (I have never though of doing that) but I use RDP and VM's an awful lot and it could be rather useful :)

Next time I get a change to look at the code, I will see what I can find. It probably wont be this week though - too busy at work (and its too hot to use my desktop in my un-airconditioned home hahaha). Maybe next week (I have to do a few other things and I really need to get 2.6 finished!)

No AC? Ouch. Weather underground is forecasting 30 for you tomorrow!

Time to go to the library or a movie theatre (like to see Iron Man 3, do you call those theatres in the UK? Or the cinema?).

Anywho, thanks for considering my idea.

Yes, 32C here tomorrow they reckon - hottest day for a long while, but its the humidity that causes me problems!!! I do have one portable AC unit but its internal and rather large and expensive to run :)
Oh and its generally known as the cinema over here, theatres tend to be for live productions.

I'll try and keep you informed of my findings when I get a chance to look.

Thanks,
Phil

OK I found out why minimize does not work.
It now works in RDP and VMWare... Just installing virtualBox to try with that :)

2.6 Beta 7 should be good for this fix (hopefully I'll build and put that out later today).

Thanks,
Phil
