To much internet connection requests

Post by MeneerWitte »

Dear Lady/Sir,

Kindly I ask your attention. :D

Why is the program constantly asking for an internet connection?

I don't see a reason why it should contact anyone or site, accept for checking for an update.

How to stop this and still have the option for an update check?

Hopefully I let you known enough and that you will find the answers you seek! :D

Good luck and have fun doing it! :D

Best Regards,

XMBC checks for updated versions at startup, using a DNS TXT record query. I'm surprised this even asks for an internet connection because if your connection is down, I would not expect DNS requests to kick it off.

Anyway, in advanced settings, you can change the frequency of checks and turn it on/off completely.

Thanks,
Phil

Dear Lady/Sir,

Kindly I ask your attention.

Well,

I already have set it to:

Check for new version every 30 days (at application startup)

It says:

To start a check for a new version every 30 days (at application startup)

So,

When the application has been started, it will count the days and over the amount of days that has been filled in, it will check for updates by the sequence. Not every startup.
Why every startup checking?

The count for checking doesn't apply to connection.
When you would say 'When the program couldn't do an update check and will keep asking till it can, that's fair.
But when it can and it will keep asking for an internet connection, that's ought.

Oh, the spell check of this website doesn't recognizes startup.

Hopefully I let you known enough and that you will find the answers you seek! :D

Good luck and have fun doing it! :D
