Problems with Remapping and Scrolling

Post by deputyweld »

Hello there,
first of all i'd like to say thanks for this programme and what to ask for your help because unfortunately I've encountered a problem using it.
but first of all some info on my "setup":
64bit Windows 8, xmouse v.2.12.1, logitech MX Master mouse (with sidescrolling wheel). The mouse itself works fine, and all buttons are recognized by xmouse.

I actually bought this mouse to use it with "Ableton". The programme itself provides sidescrolling functionality, but only with Ctrl pressed while scrolling the (ordinary up/dn) scrollwheel. my problem is, that there's no way to remap the keys inside ableton's settings, and this is how i found xmouse...

Logitech's sidescrolling wheel is recognized in xmouse button control as tilting the (ordinary) scroll wheel to the left/right. i've tried different variations to remap it
(e.g. simulate keys
{HOLDMS<150>}{CTRL}{MWUP}
or {PRESS}{CTRL}{MWDN} )

but i couldnt fix my problem. when trying it out in ableton, it functions like "pressing ctrl for a certain time, scrolling the mousewheel, releasing ctrl, but continue to scroll". what i want to say is that it first scrolls horizontally, as its supposed to do, but at a certain point it starts to scroll up/down, too. this is what i want to avoid.

i hope you people out there understand what i want to say, because its been quite a long time writing something in English.

Greetings,

Hi, I suspect this might be related to how the tilt wheel functionality works. Unlike mouse buttons (which send down (pressed) and up (release) messages) the tilt wheel simply sends a tilt left or tilt right message and repeats it while the tilt is held down, sometimes at an increasing rate the longer it is held.

This makes remapping it to key strokes that require and down and up rather difficult. However, there is an option in the scrolling and navigation tab to ignore repeated remapped horizontal scroll messages for a defined time. This in turn allows XMBC to simulate the down (pressed) when it gets the first message, and up (released) X milliseconds after it gets no message. So the first thing to try, is to turn on that option and then try your simulated keystrokes: {CTRL}{MWDN} should do it, setting the send method to "6. repeatedly while the button is down"

See if that works, if not let me know and I will think about it some more.

Thanks,
Phil

hello again and thanks for your fast reply. ive tried out the settings youve recommended, but i am not able to define the action which is needed to cause the problem. --> it seems to me like it is occuring randomly.
Ive tried different values for using the "ignore horizontal scroll command" setting . of course scrolling horizontally seems to work less laggy when using lower values (like 5-10ms) for that setting, but apart from this the actual problem also occurs with higher values (>100ms, >400ms)

thanks in advance for further help.

Thats a shame. I don't have ableton, or even know what it is, so I cant very easily try it to see if I can recreate the problem. Can you try in another application - I tested it in my browser and of course that makes it zoom in and out (ctrl+scroll wheel) - it seemed to work for me in that.

Other than that - is there any other "free" or demo application that I can try and recreate the problem with?

Thanks,
Phil

hi,
I had exactly the same issue re: horizontal scrolling in ableton live with a logitech master mx mouse and am very grateful to this post and the xmouse software for solving the problem.

Thank you - for being better than logitech!

Hi,
Thanks for you're suggestions, it actually works!
Is there a way to make this work smoothly? Like using the scroll acceleration to determine if the movement is slow or fast and scroll accordingly???
Thanks!
Mauro.
