Chrome 39 (64-bit) & XMBC v2.9.2

Post by shukla10 »

Hello, Happy New Year.

I have some problems with mouse wheel scrolling in Chrome (64-bit) when XMBC is enabled. My system is Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-Bit.

1. Bookmarks bar folder scroll (when you have too many bookmarks in a folder, a scroll appears) not working.

But this started working as soon as I created a separate profile for chrome.exe, and ticked the 'disable scroll window under cursor' feature.

2. The scroll in a drop-down menu in any form on any website is not working.

Visit any website with any kind of form with a drop-down menu that has a scroll & try to scroll it with your mouse wheel. It will scroll the whole page not the menu. Even after applying the above solution, scroll didn't work. Only solution is disable to XMBC. Then everything works as it should.

Can the problem be fixed without disabling XMBC?

Note: These problems are not present in firefox 34, IE 64-bit with EPM On.

Regards.

I'll have a look and see if I can reproduce it (I guess that means installing chrome lol)
I know there is some specific code to work around other chrome problems so perhaps they have changed something requiring my workarounds to be changed...

Ok, thanks. Yes, this started with v39, previous version didn't show this kind of problems.

I can provide you with a reproduce scenario where i first noticed the problem. Otherwise any form with a drop-down select box which has a scroll will do.

Visit http://www.game-debate.com, on the right-side, you will see the PC release dates for games, click the first game name (for eg. Project AURA), on this page you'll see a 'Can I Run' tab https://imgur.com/lkEricc, select the CPU - Intel, a model box will appear with scroll, try to scroll it with the wheel, the whole page will get scrolled.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

Strange, because its working fine here.
What version of XMBC are you using (the latest is 2.9.2 but I'm ready to build 2.10 beta 1 - I wanted to fix this one first!)

I tried with the latest chrome and the latest SRWare Iron. Both are working, so long as the mouse cursor is over the CPU Model downdown box (in your example) when scrolling. Here it works with and without XMBC running (the behaviour is the same).

Well, i checked 'cause there must be something wrong with my configuration as you don't have it and this problem was because i had activated a setting in global settings 'Activate window when scrolling'. I disabled this option and the problem is gone.

Sorry to waste your time over this silly mistake.

Ah OK - well that is good to know - so that setting is a bit of an odd-ball anyway - although as the window is active it should not cause this problem - so I will have a look and try and figure out why that option is not playing ball.

FYI: I'm also have a different problem with Chrome 39 (64-bit) & XMBC v2.9.2 under Windows 8.1 64 bit. I am trying to scroll one page at a time but it scrolls two pages instead. This just cropped up, apparently with Chrome 39. Had same issue with XMBC 2.9.1.

Of course scrolling with Chrome has always been an issue for me. Up until it was fixed by XMBC. It appears that Chrome is doing something different, yet again.

Works fine in other browsers.

Thanks,

Thanks Phil,

FYI, I also just tried beta 2.10 beta 1 and it has the same issue.

Thanks for your quick reply and providing such a great utility that has extended the life of two of my favorite mice which no longer have suitable drivers.

Phil,

More info. Perhaps I am having a broader issue, not limited to Chrome. I notice that XMBC no longer seems to work with another application for scrolling by page, Directory Opus. DOpus does respond to the native Windows 8.1 Mouse driver for scroll by page but seems to ignore if I only have it set in XMBC. This did not used to be the case I'm quite sure as I depended on this functionality.

What's changed on my system? Everything! I did a fresh install of Windows 8.1 64 Bit about a month ago and installed the newest version of all my apps.

When enabling scrolling by page, all XMBC does is switch the windows system option that scrols either by lines or by pages. It can switch this on and off depending on profile settings.

The first thing to check that that this option is actually switched - check in the mouse control panel and see what it says for this setting (but dont forget if you have profile specific settings then simply moving the mouse over the control panel might in theory change the setting!!!

Exit/Disable XMBC and use the above setting and check it works.

If we still cant figure out whats going on, debug logging should log all the switches of this setting. It is possible something got broke with the new settings files in 2.8.x so I will try and have a look too and see if I have any problems with this setting.

Thanks,
Phil

Hello Phil,

Just before I saw your last message it all of sudden started working. I was scrolling in Chrome one page at a time!

Then I tried turning this off in XMBC and I was back to one line at time even though these settings in Windows are set to one page at a time. When I turned it back on in XMBC I was back to two pages of scrolling in Chrome.

So I double checked this settings in three places: XMBC, the Control Panel and in the Modern interface (Windows 8.1) and rebooted. It is still scrolling two pages at a time in Chrome. Is it possible that XMBC is not resetting both of these options in Windows 8.1?

I'm not sure what it suddenly started working. A part of me wished that I left well enough alone when it started working. However, I want this to work reliably and I wanted to provide you good feedback since a) I am now trying the beta and b) your utility has been such a big help to me.

Over the past several years I have found the mouse I am using to be much more responsive to XMBC than the built in Mouse settings for XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 and 8.1. This was true up until a few weeks ago.

Thanks again for all of your help.

Wayne
