X-Mouse Button Control forces US Keyboard on Windows 8

Post by lesnik »

Hi,
I noticed that x-mouse button running on Windows 8 forces EN(US) keyboard every time I start my computer no matter what language pack I am using.
In my case I'm using two keyboards: English (UK) being set as default and a Polish one.

The american keyboard being called by x-mouse button makes it impossible to remove as it's not explicitly installed. It can only be removed temporarily by adding the US keyboard manually and removing afterwards.
Unfortunately the US keyboard comes back every time after a restart.
This issue makes it difficult to quickly switch between keyboards.

Can this please be fixed ???

Kind regards,
Andrew

Hi,

It can probably be fixed :)
Its already on my list of things to fix because the same problems has been reported in Windows 7.

The actual problem is that a lot of the keyboard shortcuts rely on the language being set to US, otherwise they are different e.g. copy is often not CTRL+C. So, XMBC forces itself to use US English. Ideally I need to find a way of triggering keyboard shortcuts other than simulating the keys themselves.

When it will be fixed is an entirely different matter. Almost certainly in the next version, but again, I don't know when that will be.

Keep an eye on the Beta's (I have had a few hours this week to work on it and I might get some more time soon).

Thanks,
Phil

Can you give 2.6 Beta 5 a try (find it in the beta thread at the top of the forum).

I hope it fixes this issue, but I cant be 100% sure. When testing it, can you try the copy/paste/undo actions to ensure they work across all installed languages?

Thanks,
Phil

Hi Phil,
Sorry for this belated reply. Yes, your fix does seem to work. The copy/cut/paste/undo actions all work for all the installed languages ie. English (UK) and Polish. The US keyboard is no longer forced.

Thank you,
Andrew

Thanks, that is a nice thing to know.
I'm sure its still not perfect but its a lot better than before when it was forcing US English so I will focus my resources elsewhere and try and push out 2.6 ASAP - there are a few more little things not working properly in the latest beta :(

Thanks,
Phil
