Different games with the same named .exe-files

Post by Kamm »

XMBC Version: 2.20.5
Installed or Portable version: Installed
Windows Version: Windows 11 Pro N 24H2
Mouse Information (brand/model): Lioncast LM15
Relevant Computer Information (CPU, RAM etc): Not relevant
Did the problem occur after an upgrade of XMBC? (If so, from what version?): No
Did the problem occur after a Windows update/upgrade? (If so, from what version?): No
How long have you used XMBC?: Many years!
What language and keyboard layout do you use in Windows?: German (DE)

Clear description of the problem - try and include as much information as possible, including what button and mappings you are having problems with (if applicable).:
I have many games installed on my computer, a few thousand in fact. And I'm using XMouse for many of them, because there're quite a few without key/button rebinding.

Many games use a game executable with a generic name, such as "game.exe". Whenever I try to add a profile for such a game, the program prompts something like "additional profiles for the same application aren't allowed".
So, is there a way to tell that it's not the same application? I've found no possibility to use full paths or any other way to differentiate.

No you can not use full paths. XMBC has never considered the path when evaluating the process. In the last 20 years, no one else has mentioned different games with the same process name (not have I ever seen it myself), so can I ask what games you have seen doing that?!

You should be able to use either the windows class names or the window title, using the advanced window profiles, to try and help distinguish between them.

Thank you very much! It works with the advanced window profile - I was too dumb to try that. :D

There are quite a few games with the same process name, for example Onimusha: Warlords from Capcom, the old Action-RPG NOX, but especially every game made with the RPG Maker VX Ace-Engine, because it has this strange limitation, as I was told by a game dev.
