Today while installing a new machine, I noticed, on Google, that someone has setup a domain and website to "promote" XMBC - and make it look like the official website.
The site in question, www [dot] x-mousebuttoncontrol [dot] com - That is NOT MY WEBSITE
It seems there are others too... For example, www [dot] xmousebuttoncontrol [dot] com
I have no idea what their purpose/goal is, to try and monetize my software for their benefit, to inject malware into the download (or their website). It is not clear. However, take this as a warning. The ONLY official download site is my website, under my domain, highrez.co.uk - where you are reading this post.
Some may argue I should have protected the domains by registering them myself, but this is a hobby. I cant go around registering multiple domains just to try and stop this happening. Its not worth my time, effort or money, and would not guarantee that this could not still happen - t'is the way of the world, sadly.
There are genuine 3rd party File hosting/download sites, like MajorGeeks and others, that provide links - but they ALL make it clear that XMBC is not their own software and generally have links to MY website or at least the downloads from my website. Be very wary of anything other than highrez.co.uk that claims to be X-Mouse Button Control. Even if the download is genuine and untouched, its not worth the risk in these times.
Oh, and if the people responsibly for registering and hosting x-mousebuttoncontrol . com happen to come across this post, then please stop trying to pass my software off as your own!
Regards,
Phil
