Custom inputs suddenly stopped working in Dota 2

XMBC Version: Tried latest release and beta
Installed or Portable version: Installed
Windows Version: 10
Mouse Information (brand/model): XTRFY m42 wired
Relevant Computer Information (CPU, RAM etc): 4770k 4.5, 32ghz gskill, maximus hero
Did the problem occur after an upgrade of XMBC? (If so, from what version?): No, just randomly
Did the problem occur after a Windows update/upgrade? (If so, from what version?): No
How long have you used XMBC?: +5 years
What language and keyboard layout do you use in Windows?: english

So in XMBC I make mouse4 side button binded to "middle click". But since the latest 7.38 Dota update, the game does not recognize this input. Trying different layers, the beta release etc. does not seem to work. Frustratingly, after numerous exiting and restarting of the program/game etc. it works sometimes. But after a while, it stops working. Thinking it's AV related, I tried turning that off, but still the same problem.

A workaround seems to be uninstalling the mouse in device manager and adding it back again...

Never mind, it just happened again after a dota 2 update and this doesn't work.... Very frustrating

Maybe DOTA is trying to block simulated input? Many games block XMBC and similar applications?
