Update notification does nothing when clicked

Post by hucker »

XMBC Version: 2.20.5
Installed or Portable version: Installed
Windows Version: 11 with all updates
Mouse Information (brand/model): Dell MO55UO (basic wheelmouse)
Relevant Computer Information (CPU, RAM etc): Ryzen 9 3900XT, 128GB RAM
Did the problem occur after an upgrade of XMBC? (If so, from what version?): No
Did the problem occur after a Windows update/upgrade? (If so, from what version?): No
How long have you used XMBC?: A year or three
What language and keyboard layout do you use in Windows?: English UK

Clear description of the problem - try and include as much information as possible, including what button and mappings you are having problems with (if applicable).: The update notification in the windows notification thing bottom right, when clicked it doesn't open the download page.

Also I'm repeatedly (every few days) being told there's a new beta version. Yet on your webpage at https://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/XMo ... ontrol.htm there is no link to a beta version.

Beta versions are not linked on the web page, only here in the forums (and maybe on discord):
viewtopic.php?t=4703

There is no newer release than 2.20.5 so that may be why its not doing anything (but you shouldn't get an update notification either as there is none). If you have turned on check for beta versions, then sure, you should get a notification about that, and clicking it *should* open the update option (not the download page, but it should give you a window with the change log and a option to install the beta/new version) - but you have to explicitly turn that on in the settings (update & logging tab).

I do have check for beta turned on, but nothing happened when I clicked the notification. Manually going into the settings I got the update in there which it downloaded ok.

Could be a windows bug. The notification is initially collapsed, but I expanded it and clicked the "click here to update", but it didn't.

It could be, but perhaps not so much a Windows bug as possibly, just missing functionality in the way "old" notifications are handled - normally XMBC puts up a live popup notification and clicking that normally works, maybe if notifications are disabled so they just go into the notification history, maybe that's when clicking it does not work - wouldn't surprise me as that may need additional support (which may not exist in XMBC).

I'd have to check that - maybe I need to add some more stuff to support that!

I've fiddled with Windows a lot to stop it moaning about "crucial" updates every day, I've also denied it updating automatically in several ways. What I get is the speech bubble bottom right changing from clear to black. I click that and get a list of notifications. Yours requires pressing a down arrow to expand it so I can see it all. Shorter ones like the windows one don't. Clicking the windows one opens the update dialog ok. Clicking yours makes the notification vanish.
