Double clicks and problem with draging on Xmouse.

Post by wooshaq »

XMBC Version: 2.18.7 64bit
Windows Version: 8.1
Mouse Information (brand/model): Logitech M705
Computer Information: Lenovo z710
Did the problem occur after an upgrade of XMBC?: no
Did the problem occur after a Windows update/upgrade?: no
How long have you used XMBC?: 2 years
What language and keyboard layout do you use in Windows?: polish

Clear description of the problem: Whenever I use X mouse I experience double clicks randomly, sometimes i cannot even drag and drop because of it. Sometimes the profiles on the software are switching on their own, I have to click both left and right mouse button to make it reverse to the previous state. I updated few times but non of the versions solved my problem.

Also, I'm not using any addtional software by logitech, just XMBC.

Hi,

This is not something I have experienced, so it may be a configuration issue. How do you have your buttons configured?
Can you send a screenshot (or better still, save your profile and send me a copy of it (pm or email)).

The default logging is minimal so it is pretty useless unless you turn on debug logging (which produces masses of log and is useful to search for specific events based on the time they happen) - I don't think we need that <yet>.

Regards,
Phil

OK, I also cant see anything obviously wrong.
Are you sure these double clicks ONLY happen when XMBC is running - because 99% of the time, the double clicks are a result of failing physical mouse buttons - the little micro switches effectively get dirty and cause bad contact or button "bounce". If this is the case, it will likely get worse, but should also happen when XMBC is not running or is disabled. It also explains the problem with dragging because the button does not stay held down properly.

So far, everyone reporting such problems has turned out to be the mouse itself, unless they have actually remapped the left / right buttons incorrectly (which you have not touched).

The debug log might still be useful, it will at least tell us if XMBC is being sent more than one click - but you would have to reproduce the problem with debug logging enabled. That may not be so easy (depending how often the problem happens)?. If you do try that, please make a note of the time of the problem too so I can narrow down the very verbose log :)

If you have another mouse, its definitely worth trying that too - and also (if possible) leave XMBC not running for a while and see if the problem still occurs - because my biggest suspect right now is the mouse itself (Ive had to change several button switches on my favorite devices before - rather than replace the whole device - but that's not easy unless your used to soldering irons and fixing electronics! :)).

Also, the profiles in XMBC are supposed to switch automatically, depending on the active (focus) application OR the application under the mouse cursor (this is the whole point of XMBC). Your settings are that the profile should be detected based on the window under the mouse cursor, so XMBC should switch to them as the cursor moves over their windows.
