Feature request: Option, to activate window when hovering

Post by reiba »

Thank you very much for this very, very useful programme!
I have the following feature request:
Could you add the option, that a window is activated as soon as the mouse is hovering over the inactive Window?
(the window should already go active by only hovering the mouse – without scrolling in advance...)

Thank you for an answer and with very best wishes

I think I tried that in the past, in fact I think there may already be a hidden setting in the settings file (not gui) to do that...
If I recall, it was rather unhelpful, causing more trouble than it was worth. I'll take a look and see if there is a hidden option for you to try.

Great, thank you!
I often have 2 word-document side by side open – often to compare pages.
And so, often I do not want to simply scroll with mouse-wheel because this scrolling is too rough.
So I have to see the scrollbar within Word – but it is only visible if the window is ACTIVE.
So I always have to click into the text (to activate the window), so that I can make use of the scroll bar...

That gives me an idea... Perhaps this should be a profile specific option, so you can enable it for certain applications/windows (DOH - thats more work for me :))

GREAT!
Thank you.
By the way: I found the line in the setting file and put the option to "true"...
BUT then surprising phenomena occurred, e.g. it was not possible to work with context-menues... It was then even a bit tricky to finish XMouse Button Control.
After that I put "false" back to the line in the setting file, startet the programm again and everything okay again.

But if you have another idea to make the option (activating window when hovering) possible, it would be super!

Thanks in advance!!
Best wishes.

OK Thats probably why I never actually put it in the GUI. i Think the best option would be my previous idea to make it window/application specific.
I'll see what I can do, I hope I will get some time over the weekend for XMBC.

OK, I have added a new per-window/application profile option in 2.17 beta 3. So give that a try, create a profile for word (Winword.exe) and tick the "Activate window on hover" option in the profile's options tab.

It seems to do the trick here. I also changed the activate on hover global option so that it might be better with non-activatable windows - but its still a hidden option - you can try that if you want too but less important :).

Thanks,
Phil

WOOOOOW!
WORKING!
It does what I hoped!
I start Word for windows
In the setup of XBC I go to "add" a new profile.
I choose "Application" winword.exe
I click ok.
On the main window of XBC I choose Options.
There I activate the check box "Active window on hover"
I click apply.
That is it.

What is not understandable for me:
What is the use of the button "specific window"? >> I don't know what to do with the dialog "Find window"? (I do not have to do anything with it – XBC is perfectly doing what I hoped! (activate window on hovering)
And under "options": Whats the use of the new(?) checkbox "Clip (lock) mouse cursor to active window"?

And you wrote about the "activate on hover global option": That is now working okay for me! (in advance I deleted the "word-Profle") – NO irritating phenomena, as far a I can see!)
But I think, I will put the option to "false" again, because for the moment I only want this behaviour in Word for windows – so I will use the winword.exe-Profile.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Best wishes.

Hi Phil,
Everything working perfect with 2 Word-documents side-by-side.

One small thing is a bit irritating:
Having a Word-Document open and opening a dialog (i.e. "Paragraph") – whenever I move the mouse away from the dialog-window, it is no longer active.
So whenever the mouse accidentially moves away from the open dialog, I have to move it back to the dialog, so that I can go on wirting in it.
My question: is it possible to reserve the option "activate window on hovering" only for "real" windows? (and not for dialog-"windows")

Thanks for all your efforts!
Best wishes.

The problem with that is that the definition of a real window is going to be very dependant on the application in question.
What you could do perhaps, is instead of making an application profile, make an advanced window profile (use the drag tool to select the word window you want, rather than everything in winword.exe). That way it should only activate that particular window class and not nay dialogs that WinWord throws up.

Thank you, that is okay.
And it takes a litte bit of care and awareness to keep the mouse on the dialog.

Thank you

An idea or question: Is it possible, to make a shortcut (e.g. rightclick on the XBC-Symbol in the taskbar to deactivat for instance the "word-pofile"? Most of the time I do not need the "activate window on hovering" …

What do you think?
Best wishes

Urm, right click on the XMBC icon brings up a menu... so we cant use right click - and how would it tell it which profile to deactivate...
So that's not going to be easy.... I'm struggling right now to think of a sensible/suitable way to do that.

I have got ideas,
One, add a tray icon menu item "per profile ON/OFF ▶" that has sub-items "✔profile-1", "✔profile-2",,, They will be toggled (eanabled/disabled) by left click.
Or, in the option tab (per profile), add a new feature that makes a hotkey to change the status of each profile ON/OFF.

thanks,
