is inpout32 only driver reqd for new pci parallel card

Post by ftbrady »

I installed a pci parallel port card in my windows 7 computer and device manager says drivers are required.
Isn't inpout32 my device driver?
Are any other drivers needed?
Please help me understand

InpOut32 is a generic driver that allows you to access hardware ports/registers directly.
But I suspect you still need windows to see the card in the first place, if nothing else, but to configure the card and what addresses the ports it exposes are assigned to.

However, note that Inpout32 does not work with many PCI or PCIe devices so it may not even work even with proper card drivers.

FYI I will move this post to the correct InpOut forum so it is in the right place for everyone to see.

Thanks,
Phil

Thanks Phil
I've installed the driver (had to be 64 bit driver to install, since I have windows 7 64 bit OS).
The OS device manager is now happy - declares that a LPT3 and a LPT1 port are operational).
Pls let me know if I have to reinstall inpout32 - i.e., does it have to 'see' the card driver to install properly?
tx and I'll continue testing.
If this card doesn't work, I'll keep buying cards until one does work - pls answer the above question when you have time (does card and its drivers have to be installed before inpout32 is installed)?

Good news - thanks for the update.
I cant answer the question about drivers as I simply don't know - but I guess you have answered it yourself already.

Can you please name the PCI card/hardware for the benefit of others looking for a PCI card that works.

Thanks,
Phil

Gladly Phil
The company was so helpful and the price was so low ($21.88 incl s/h) - I'm glad to give them a plug.
I purchased SKU 159548 single port PCI card from AllSerial.com (mfd by CableMax).
Getting the proper driver and getting it installed was somewhat tricky due to my inexperience, but they stuck with me all the way.

My h/w is a home built 64 bit computer running the 64 bit windows 7 OS.
BTW, I found that inpout did *not* need reinstallation after installing the card drivers.
Let me know if I forgot anything.
Thanks again
