Re: Time for XMBC 2.4 Beta

Post by phil »

I have just updated the beta to 2.4 Beta 8.

Changes since beta 7:
  • #112 Added extra debugging and error handling to layer modifier key hook.
  • #117 Installer does not remember previous installation path. NOTE: This will only apply AFTER installing 2.4 beta 8 or later.
  • Fixed bug in Import/Export functions (introduced in an earlier beta.
  • Added Open log file button on advanced settings dialog
  • Restricted simkey delay (added in beta 7) to between 0 and 20 ms and fixed issue with incorrect default setting.
As usual the link in the first post has been updated.
I don't think there are any changes to language pack files in this build but if you notice anything while translating, let me know.

I have just updated the beta to 2.4 Beta 9.

Changes since beta 8:
  • Fixed problem with Invert horizontal scrolling.
  • Added delay for mouse wheel custom actions to help prevent actions (simkeys) being missed
  • Added extra logging to diagnose some reported issues
As usual the link in the first post has been updated.

I don't think there are any changes to language pack files in this build but if you notice anything while translating, let me know.

Thanks,
Phil

And on to Beta 10...

Changes since beta 9:
  • Performance tweaks, trying to keep the hook code as efficient as possible.
  • Changes to the internal delay/wait mechanism to be more accurate with small delays (<15ms). This effects both the {WAIT}, {WAITMS} and advanced setting "Delay between simulated keystrokes".
  • Modified delay for mouse wheel custom actions introduced in Beta 9 so it only applied to "during" simulated keystroke actions.
As usual the link in the first post has been updated.

Please let me know if you have any new issues or strange behavior with simulated keystrokes or actions not working where they worked in Beta 9. It shouldn't happen but the timing can be crucial and that has been changed (more configurable/accurate) in beta 10.

Thanks,
Phil

Oops, I think I've broken the application profiles in beta 10 (or maybe it is since beta 10) anyway, if you have problems detecting custom window profiles then don't worry it will be fixed shortly.

Thanks,
Phil

I have just released 2.4 Beta 11.

Changes since Beta 10:
  • #120: Added Author and Description flags to language pack files so translators can be credited in the GUI.
  • #121: Fixed long standing bug with WAIT and WAITMS which were broken in v2.0.
This has an impact on any simulated keystroke macros. I have introduced {HOLD} and {HOLDMS} tags which allow you to customize specify the time the following key is held down for and reverted WAIT and WAITMS to their previous function of a delay between keys in a sequence.
  • #122: Fixed detection of custom window profiles introduced in Beta 10
There have been some changes to the language pack translations (sorry).
Here is a new language pack file. I have marked the changes with the following comment:
# -- Updated in 2.4 Beta 10 --
language_template.xmbclp
I hope this is getting close to release now...
Thanks,
Phil

EDIT: I didn't update the link properly - it really does point to beta 11 now!

  • #124 Add "Same as layer 1" default option for layers 2-5.
  • #125 Actions in dropdown are only displayed if applicable to current operating system.
There have been some additions to the language pack translations to accommodate the new features.

OK Here is v2.4 Beta 13.

I've fixed a few outstanding bugs and hopefully this is it before release.
So test now or forever hold your peace!

Changes since Beta 12:
  • #126 Fixed bug which prevented activation of profiles if the process name was not all lower case!
  • #102 (Updated) Updated code to "correctly" restore gadget positions when restoring desktop icons.
If no show stoppers are found I will look to release within the next few weeks - I will run it through its paces on several machines first to be sure and please let me know if you notice anything odd as always!

NOTE: There are no language translation updates in this one :)

Thanks,
Phil

OK, I admit it, I was wrong. 13 is unlucky anyway :)

I have just published 2.4 Beta 14 with an updated version checking scheme, including checking for new beta versions.

Changes since Beta 13:
  • #127 Modified version check to use a DNS query instead of a WWW query, also check for beta updates.
As a result, there were also some changes to the language template.
Here is a new language pack file. I have marked the changes with the following comment:

Testing... well its a good idea :)

I have just published 2.4 Beta 15 with some fixes to the language translation, including a new updated template.

Changes since Beta 14:
  • #95 (update) Fixed spelling mistakes and missing language translations reported during testing.
As a result, there were also some changes to the language template.

Almost done.

I have just published 2.4 Beta 16 with one fix to a new feature added earlier in v2.4

Changes since Beta 15:
  • #102 (update) Fixed bug causing desktop gadgets to not be correctly restored/saved.
There are no changes to the language template. This is another chance to test the new version DNS update notification system that should be notifying of new beta releases (as well as the next major release).

Hopefully if all goes to plan, I will release v2.4 final sometime this week.

Thanks,
Phil

Sigh, I know Beta's are all about finding bugs before release, but this is dragging on too much for my liking now. I guess with such a big change as support for translation it was bound to happen, but I'm sorry for all the beta versions... 17 is almost embarrassing, but it is code complete (honest!) and every little fix is a step closer to release!

Anyway I have just published 2.4 Beta 17 with some fixes to the language translation, including a new updated template.

Changes since Beta 16:
  • #95 (update) Fixed spelling mistakes and missing language translations reported during testing. thanks to prairial again for working on a translation and pointing these out.
As a result, there were also some changes to the language template.
Here is a new language pack file. I have marked the changes with the following comment:

Thanks Quallo,

It looks pretty good (although I cant comment on the translation as I don't speak German!).

Would you mind if I include the pack in the installation? XMBC is reasonably popular in Germany I think so it might be good to have it in there as a default!

Also, I have had a thought, it might be a good idea, next to the language selection to have a button that opens a link to a language pack web-page, because then we (I) can maintain a web page for all the available translations, rather than just adding them to the installation kit,

I might wait for v2.5 to do that because I don't want to delay v2.4 any more but in general I think it will be worth it.

Thanks,
Phil

Oh I just noticed that
"Change Movement to Scroll (Sticky)" => ""
is missing from your language pack, apologies if that is my fault but I think it is in the template.

If anyone else spots any missing texts from the basic template then please let me know. It might just be a case of adding them, but it might involve a bug fix/code change too!

Thanks,
Phil

I have just published 2.4 Beta 18 which adds 2 language packs to the install, German and Japanese.

Thanks to Quallo and Prairial respectivly for the translation work!
More languages will be added as people provide them so get to work and your creation may be included in the next release :)

Changes since Beta 17:
  • Added German and Japanese language packs. They may not be perfect but better than anything I could do myself! Please report any issues you find here to in the translation thread.
  • Fixed a bug causing the Windows version not to be detected properly on Windows 8
There are no changes to the language template.

Again, if all goes to plan, I will release v2.4 final soon - not long left!

Thanks,
Phil
