Time for XMBC 2.4 Beta

Post by phil »

Hi everyone,

XMBC 2.3 seems to be working reasonably well but I felt it was time to start looking at my todo list and therefore kick off the next beta run.

If your having problems with v2.3, feel free to try the latest beta and let me know your experiences with it. But beware that several deep down internals have been messed with in 2.4 Beta because I have had to rework lots of stuff to make progress towards the goal of multi-language support less painful.

The latest beta download is here.
I will maintain this link throughout the beta versions and post updates of whats changed here.

See below for the changes from 2.3 to 2.4 Beta 2 (the first public beta)

Thanks,
Phil

Changes from 2.3 to 2.4 Beta 2 (first public beta):
  • #97 - Fixed a problem with erratic mouse in snipping tool. May also fix other erratic mouse problems when left/right button is re-assigned.
  • #99 - Fixed a problem with Spotify and Media Next/Previous (etc.)
  • #100 - Changed the internals to support Unicode strings for future language translations
Please don't ask about the language support yet - it is not there, but hopefully in a subsequent beta it will be added.

Thanks,
Phil

Warning, the first problem I found in beta 2 is that adding a new profile is broken (window specific at least). It will be fixed in the next beta but I'm also chasing a problem with the scroll lines option that windows seems to be ignoring (it never used to :()

OK Beta link in first post updated (2.4 Beta3).

Fixed the bug mentioned above.
Added a whole lot more work on the language/translation support.

Sooner or later I'm going to start asking for help translating the text in XMBC. this will be done via a language file which will map the English in XMBC to the language of your choice.
Its not quite ready yet, but if you want to help with that let me know via PM.

Thanks,
Phil

Hi,

Thanks for superior software. Are there any plans to increase number of buttons say up to 8?
My old favorite MX700 not supported on Win-7.

Thanks

Changes in 2.4 Beta 4:
  • #99 - Increased delay when sending keys to fix problem with media next/previous not working as expected with spotify.
  • #100 - Changed the internals to support Unicode strings for future language translations
  • #102 - Added ability to save/restore Windows 7 desktop gadget positions when saving/restoring desktop icon positions.

OK I fixed the profile loading/saving bug that I missed in beta 5.
As usual the same link in the first post will get you the latest beta.

If you installed beta 5 and saved a profile then your xml file may be corrupt. If you have a backup all good, if not let me know and I can manually fix it for you if you send it to me. If your didn't save/apply any changes then it should all be good with beta 6.

I've updated the language template file also to fix a few mistakes in the text...
language_template.xmbclp
language_ru.xmbclp
Thanks,
Phil

Another early morning and another new beta...
Ive updated the links to point to Beta 7.

Changes:
  • 96 Added sticky change movement to scroll action.
  • 99 Added option to configure default delays used in simulated keystrokes in the advance settings tab (this is not related to {WAIT}/{WAITMS} tags).
  • 110 Fixed problem with BACK/FORWARD (APPCOMMAND keys) in Remote Desktop sessions.
I've also had to modify the language template just a little (only 2 or 3 new strings and one change).
New strings:

Code: Select all

"Dela&y between simulated keystrokes" => ""
"Change Movement to Scroll (Sticky)" => ""
#and a change...
"&Repeat tilt rate" => ""
language_template.xmbclp
language_ru.xmbclp
Thanks,
Phil

There is a summary of changes, that is precisely what this thread is all about. Every time I release a new beta, I say what has been resolved/changed.
For example just above, I wrote this...
Changes:
96 Added sticky change movement to scroll action.
99 Added option to configure default delays used in simulated keystrokes in the advance settings tab (this is not related to {WAIT}/{WAITMS} tags).
110 Fixed problem with BACK/FORWARD (APPCOMMAND keys) in Remote Desktop sessions.
The number refer to my change control list and the text is what happened / what was fixed.

There is also a change log web page (for release versions) and a change log file included in the distribution which lists every change since version 1 effectively. It should be on your start menu in the same place as XMBC.

Have I missed something?

Thanks,
Phil

Just a report: Sticky scroll feature in Beta 7 works well. Thanks a bunch! Will use for few more days and report if there are any issues.
