You have to put in the the DEFAULT windows program files folder because otherwise XMBC can not operate as a Windows Accessibility tool and interact properly with all processes. If you want it elsewhere, use the portable version and put up with the issues when NOT running as an accessibility tool.

This is a Microsoft restriction - the only folder that accessibility tools can run in is <windows drive>\<windows program files folder> OR <windows folder>\system32.... If its not installed there, it wont work properly (Thanks Microsoft) and thats why you cant change it without the portable version (which is limited - some commands will not work and it will not work with all (esp. elevated) processes.
