Re: XMBC 2.18 Beta

Post by phil »

Here is 2.18 Beta 10. Ive been rather busy recently and haven't had much time to spend on XMBC. I'm afraid that's going to continue for some weeks yet but today I got some time to get a few little fixes in!

If you have check for beta versions enabled, you should get notified of a new version and prompted to update in the next day or so. This is the most efficient method (bandwidth wise) as the updates are only a fraction of the size of the full install. Otherwise, you can get the full installation beta HERE. Note that this link will always get you the latest beta version!

Changes since v2.18 Beta 9:
  • #574 - Fixed an issue where sticky buttons do not get released properly on next press.
  • #573 - Bug with close option, also sending the default button up actions (back on button 4).
  • #570 - Modified auto-layer revert timer to accept fractions of a second.
There are no language changes in 2.18 beta 10 (other than to fix an error in the template (missing => "") as pointed out by many of you :).

Any problems, PM me a copy of the debug log file (or post a snippet in a code block here).

Thanks,
Phil

I've just re-published 2.18 Beta 10 with the correct German and Polish language packs.
If you need the German or Polish translations, please re-download XMBC 2.18 Beta 10 using the link in the post above.

Hi I'm new to the group here and new to the Beta versions.

Got a problem with the new Beta My settings are
Mouse Button 4
Change Movement to Scroll
Configuration:- the following are set ON
Sticky until next click
Block All other buttons when sticky (although this doesn't make any difference)
Block original mouse input
Lock to Y Axis (Scroll vertically)

On selecting Mouse button 4 the cursor is locked on to the Movement button and cannot be changed but Mouse button 4 reverts to it's original function ie Back in my case. Could only get out of it by disabling X-Mouse by switching scroll lock on.

Hope that this makes sense.

Hi Reg,

Firstly, welcome, and thanks for the feedback and the clear description of the problem!
Secondly, ironically, that is once of the things I tried to fix in 2.18 Beta 10 (issues #574) but I failed... Its fine with any button EXCEPT 4 and 5!!!

I have found and fixed it before I even read your message (am I psychic?! - no someone else has the same problem) - it will be fixed in 2.18 Beta 11 (which maybe I will push out now seeing as two people have this problem already!)

Thanks,
Phil

Thanks Phil.

Thank you for your welcome. Looking forward to the new version. In the meanwhile this version is quite usable as long as I don't make button 4 sticky. I am using a Logitech marble mouse, a trackball mouse, which doesn't have a scroll wheel so this program is just what I need. Logitech's option is to use Setpoint which is very limited in it's button modifications.

Reg

Oops, didn't expect the new beta version so soon. That works fine. Many thanks.

BTW where on the forum can I read about how to use the debug log file?

Urm, I don't think there is anywhere... The debug log file is for me really - as it is to help me debug issues. Without a deep knowledge of the code its not going to be all that much use, except for the obvious warnings and errors..

I really meant where can I find the debug log file as you ask for a copy or excerpt when problems are reported. Perhaps I just misunderstand :D

Oh sorry... There is just one log file - to get the debug log, you have to turn on debug logging in the "Updates & Logging" tab of the settings window in XMBC. Then the debug info get written to the log file (there is a button to open it in the same tab, and you can also open it from the XMBC systray icon's context menu).

The "Updates & Logging" tab is covered in the manual (page 11) - although it does not say that the debug option will automatically turn off next time XMBC is run (which is the case by the way)....

BTW where on the forum can I read about how to use the debug log file?
It is extremely unlikely that it will be necessary. One time I had to track the log at startup.

Code: Select all

XMouseButtonControl.exe /debug
The log itself is stored where the other settings (you can find the path in the settings, but there is no button to open the folder next to the path selection)
As he wrote "Phil", the log is more often needed for him, and it is difficult for others to understand its contents.

Hi, thanks for your amazing work
I was wondering If there's a way I can get XMBC to work with XIGNCODE3 ( an anti cheat program ) or even find a work around to get my space bar to work without restrictions of the game .. I used xmbc to 'repeatedly press spacebar while holding mouse button 4 .. I contacted xigncode support and they said uninstall xmbc, but I dont do anything illegal with it :|
Sorry if this is off-topic
it'll be appreciated if someone helps me :(

Re: XMBC 2.18 Beta

It most certainly is off-topic, this is a thread for issues with 2.18 Beta.

Unfortunately, many games consider macros and key simulation software such as XMBC and AutoHotkey and the likes as cheating (and indeed, it can be used that way and is by many people). I'm afraid I am not in the game of providing or supporting cheat tools. XMBC is a productivity tool that some can try and abuse to cheat in online games (which I most certainly don't and won't support even if I could).

I don't know what you are using XMBC for, and legality is not the point, the point is if the game company deems it as against their rules, it is against their rules! If you are trying to gain an advantage in a game over others, then more fool you, if not then I'm sorry but there isn't much/anything I can do anyway as XMBC simply uses Microsoft's SendInput API so there is nothing I can do to make any difference, even if I wanted to.

The only real way to invisibly "cheat" in this respect would be to emulate a keyboard at the hardware level, so Windows thinks its a normal keyboard. Maybe you could do something with a Raspberry Pi or Arduino to simulate a keyboard in hardware outside of the Windows ecosystem so it can not be detected - but that is way outside the scope of my productivity tool and would require some real deep knowledge and technical expertise - and if someone were into that, then you wouldn't be using it to cheat in benign online games anyway I guess :)

Regards,
Phil

PS, Your English was fine :).

Probably you mean Arduino, as I couldn't find Adriano. Anyway, that's something new to me :)

Yeh - spelling (esp. of odd names) is not my strong point, but thanks for bringing that up after 2 months :)
