Is the Logitech M585 Compatible w/ Xmouse??

Post by xlook »

Hi Phil,

I'm strongly thinking about buying this mouse which is the Logitech M585. Its 6 button. I saw it being sold at Best Buy yesterday but didnt buy it yet before I get your ok on it. Could you please take a look for a minute and tell me if you think 5 of its buttons can work with Xmouse?

Personally, I've not come across a Logitech mouse that is not compatible with XMBC.
Sometimes the Logitech software (setpoint) can cause issues, or can configure the mouse buttons to behave differently so that XMBC does not see them) but generally this can be fixed by changing the configuration in the Logitech software, or simply by not using the Logitech software.

I think it will be fine, but, having said all of that, I can not guarantee anything because I don't have that particular Logitech mouse.
If you buy it, can you return it if its not suitable (in the UK (and I presume the rest of the EU) we have laws that allow us to return anything bought online (distance selling) for any reason within 16 days or something like that). That does not apply to shops like best buy but they will generally refund/replace if they "don't work as expected". So I would buy it and if its not suitable/"does not work with your environment", take it back!

Thanks,
Phil

Hi Phil,

I see what you mean. Before I buy it I'll ask the store what return policy they got. It's the wise thing to do. Thanks Phil.

Good luck and let me know how you get on, not least so we can add the mouse to the comparability list one way or another!
