Trouble with ctrl+c / ctrl+v in vista x64

Post by shiori »

X-Mouse is the great utility definitely. Thanks so much to its developer.

But i found strange bug. Here it is.
I use Vista x64 & mouse A4tech WOP-35. This is great mouse with design of Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical, it has two big programmable buttons on its sides. And i use IntelliPoint 6.3 for x64 where i tell to Windows that my mouse is IntelliMouse Optical and associate 4th & 5th buttons with Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V (not keystroke! but operations "copy" and "paste").
Then i know about X-Mouse, delete IntelliPoint and install 1.40 version. And it successfully works.

But then i re-install my Vista x64 to new hdd. And first what i do - install X-Mouse. And associate 4 & 5 buttons as earlier. But they don't work! Then i delete X-Mouse, install IntelliPoint (all the distributives are same), and Ctrl+C & Ctrl+V don't work there! How?! If i program 4 & 5 to other operations, they work. But i need copy-paste.
More - if I use keystroke Ctrl+C & Ctrl+V, it works. And if I then return to not keystroke copy-paste, it works. Well? No! Because after every reboot keystroke ctrl+c & ctrl+v work like simulation of right clock. And not keystroke ctrl+c & ctrl+v after every reboot just didn't works.
The same keystrokes in IntelliPoint not sensible to reboot and works properly. But IntelliPoint has one other bug - it good with my A4 mouse, but bad with my new 5-button Microsoft Mouse, it not scrolls properly in Winamp and several other applications. I win this bug on my old hdd vista x64, where x-mouse 1.40 works properly. But in the same new fresh system i must choose - bad scroll or disable copy-paste. Its so sad.

Please, help!

Hi was this with 1.40 or 1.41 (todays release)?
I guess from the log that its 1.41 but its good to check :)

I will investigate it now but I have to say that I've never noticed a problem and I use "Copy (Ctrl+c)" and "Paste (ctrl+v)" all the time as my 4th and 5th buttons on Vista x64 so I would have expected to see a problem if there was a generic one :(

I will let you know if I find anything - I think that log may be useful :)

[edit]
Some questions you may be able to answer:
1) What language do you use in Windows?
2) Do other key actions work - for example can you try: "Cut (Ctrl+X)", "Open", "Undo (ctrl+z)", "Show/Hide Desktop" - these all use a similar function so I suspect they may all be broken - but it might help narrow it down.

OK, I think I managed to recreate the problem by choosing a difference language.
I also think I have fixed the problem :)

The next version should work.
I will try and push our 1.42 ASAP for those suffering this problem.

Thanks,
Phil

I found problems in 1.40 version, but the same were in 1.41, and log was from 1.41 of course.

You're right, described problems were caused by language differences. I found today that 1.40 works properly if English is used as default language for Windows. And my old hdd vista correspond this criteria, but new hdd has another default language - Russian. I don't know why I choose russian because I use english in all systems. Maybe I was lazy to change default option.

But 1.42 is fine in any of these two languages. Amazing! Thanks & 1000 internets for you!

And you're truly wizard!
I wanted to ask another question, not about X-Mouse but in the nearby region.
Microsoft Mouse are bugful piece of hard. My new 5-button mouse can't scroll properly in Winamp and several other apps (I said this yesterday). It's fine in scrolling up, but not fine in scrolling down. This behavior is observated with default vista mouse drivers & with IntelliPoint 6.3. But if I extract distributive file to folder manually (this is .exe archive) and then manually update driver of my mouse by setting destination of drivers this extracted folder, mouse works better, but not properly. Mouse is ok with scrolling up & down but do it very fast, and it cause discomfort feelings. One scroll action equal 8 (eight) lines in winamp & browser etc. And I'm unable to change this value (8) - if I change settings of scroll in standard Control Panel by choosing 1 line or 10 lines, my mouse don't respond by this changings. While A4tech, my old mouse, is well respond to this changings - it always scroll 2 lines by time in Winamp playlist & 3 per cents by time & have different sensitivity, defined by me, in browser, win explorer etc.

You stole my thoughts by including in 1.42 ability to program scroll up & down actions. If I associate with them their default actions - scroll up & down, my Microsfot Mouse works properly in winamp & so on. But if I choose "don't intercept", it works bad, as I said earlier. Thanks so much for this new feature in 1.42! But if you can answer me, why these things happen with some mice and don't happen with others, I will be glad.

Hi, firstly I'm glad I have fixed both your problems with v1.42 incredible :)

However, I don't know if I can explain the problem you are having with your Microsoft mouse. I only have the original MS IntelliExplorer mice (the first with 5 buttons) and they don't have this problem, nor does my logitech mouse that I use here daily.

However, a friend has a MS mouse and his scroll wheel is very sensitive. Its very easy to scroll more than one "notch" as the wheel we free spinning rather than notched. My logitech G9 mouse has a button on the bottom called "Microgear" to make the wheel spin freely or in notches (clicks).

My bet is that the MS mouse is actually scrolling more than 1 click without you realising it. In XMBC 142, I ignore the delta (number of scrolls) when you override the default action which would explain why it works for you.

Of course, I could be completely wrong. I don't understand why installing the drivers manually makes any difference either. I guess you really should ask Microsoft :)

Thanks
Phil

Problem of scrolling with microsoft mice isn't only mine. Look at this http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php ... ost2343303 (link to solution used by me).

I know that microsoft tilt-wheel mice don't have discrete positions to notch. But my finger isn't so rude. I can realize one analog moving. And I can feel the difference between my long moving (in proper mode) and shortest (in unproper), while both of them cause several scroll actions instead of one.

I heard opinions that problem linked with microsoft "smooth scrolling". But I didn't have much time to explore this closely.
