Reassigned my left mouse button - can't undo

Didn't to this intentionally. I only use x-mouse to assign my middle scroll button the "back" function - been doing it for many years - very convenient. Every so often the assigned function stops responding and continues to do so even when I re-set it in the X-Mouse control menu. So I simply uninstall and re-install the program and it works again. Done that at least half a dozen times or more over the years and also reinstalled x-mouse whenever I reinstalled or upgraded the OS. This time I was distracted and I assigned "back" to the left mouse button and then noticed that even though I hadn't done it - the middle button of the new install already had the "back" function assigned as well. So, absent the left mouse function, I couldn't change the assignment in the menu or do anything else that requires normal mouse functionality. So I restarted in safe mode and uninstalled x-mouse through control panel which then returned normal mouse function when I restarted. And I downloaded and installed another version of x-mouse from the download page of this site. But the new, presumably clean installs (I've since done more than one) open the x-mouse menu with the left and middle mouse buttons both assigned "back." So the new install continues the same problem. I presume there' are simple answers that would either or both allow me to remove whatever is causing the menu in each re-install to retain the previous settings - a registry key, something that's not being removed through the regular Windows 7 uninstall process OR a keyboard method of opening the X-Mouse program menu and making the setting change without using the mouse either to open the menu or make the change. But i don't know how to do either - get a true fresh install or change the menu without a functioning left mouse button. I run Windows 7 with a Logitech m100 optical Mouse - the same that has worked with x-mouse for years - and before that with XP and I think as far back as 98 - again with Logitech optical mice. There were no new programs or updates that would have affected x-mouse. It was working one moment and the next not - which has happened before - and at those times I simply re-install without incident. The versions of X-Mouse I've used for the reinstall were the one on this site's download page and the 2.4 and 2.5 installation versions which I keep in a folder and have reinstalled from my own hard drive before without any issue. 2.5 is what was installed when the problem began. Presently there is no version installed. Thanks for any help. I'd really like to be able to resolve this because I love the program.

Here is a simple solution. Right-click the system tray icon (as I see in your post your RMB is OK, otherwise you can navigate to the icon with the TAB key and the Arrow keys and then use the Menu/Application key on your kbd to show the context menu) and in the context menu use the Arrow keys to select 'Disable XMBC' and hit Enter. Then you can set your LMB back to normal and enable XMBC again.

Greetings!

Thanks so much. That gave me a keyboard way of resolving it. But in the reinstall process I noticed for the first time there is a box that needs to be checked to delete previous settings. I've just been on auto-pilot after reinstalling it so many times over the years I just routinely click right through that to the install. So both questions answered - how to get into and change the set up with the keyboard if and when when necessary and how to make sure the install deletes prior settings.

Glad your up and running again!

Another thing to consider for the future... Enable the option in XMBC to "disable all actions when scroll lock is enabled" which means you can just toggle on scroll lock and XMBC will effectively be disabled. You can also setup a global hotkey to enable/disable XMBC if scroll lock is not available/suitable.

Thanks,
Phil
