"please inform the developer" instead of e-Mail

Post by agam »

Hello Phil,

just now i try the latest version of x-mouse (portable).

1. i copy the files from folder x86 (on windows 7.1 32bit) to a folder on a FAT32 partition and that works well without any problems. (until now)

2. i copy the files to the OS-partition (NTFS) to the "Program Files" and got an error (screenshot, cannot here insert a picture ?! - "An unexpected error - 107374819 occured") when starting to run ...

that to inform you. many thanks for that nice program !

regards

Thanks....

I think this might be related to a problem I fixed in the latest beta just the other day. However, I dont normally distribute portable beta versions - I can do to be sure (it also has more crash logging so if its not what I fixed, the extra logs may be useful to diagnose the problem).

I will build and attach it here for you.

However, be aware that I'm off on Holiday on Thursday so I wont be able to don much more for a couple of weeks.

Thanks,
Phil

Give this beta a try....

If it crashes, please send me the XMBCExceptionNNN.og file (in the same folder as the EXE or normal log file).

good morning phil,

thanks for the beta - but that also not works. The problem is - maybe - the folder on C: (not FAT/NTFS): if the program runs in the standard program folder ("Program Files") then the data will writen in "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Admin\Anwendungsdaten\Highresolution Enterprises\" and NOT in the folder of the program.

Also then i got an error saying: "Unable to find or create the log file folder ..... The log will be placed in 'R:\temp' instead." (that is my ram-disk for all temp-files) and creates an empty folder "WPDNSE" in "R:\temp".

Ok urn, the log file folder issue is new in the 2.11 betas and I think a genuine bug - maybe I should release more beta portable versions lol!

The other issue, in portable mode, the log and settings file should be the same as the program folder. But by putting XMBC in the program files folder will force it to run in 'non-portable" mode so the log will go to docs and settings (assuming your on XP then?!)

I will try and have a look tonight but I might be busy getting ready for my holiday tomorrow!!

Thanks,
Phil

Sorry for the delay on this one.

XMBC in Portable mode should not be run from the programfiles folder as it will not have permission to write it's files there and fail. I have modified the code to protect against this and warn the user that it will not work.

I have also fixed the issue of the log file location (I think)

Give this a try and let me know how you find it.
