Having changes made to setup apply to all pc users

Post by gdoug » Tue Jul 03, 2018 1:44 am

XMBC Version: 2.6.2.0
Windows Version: Windows 7
Mouse Information (brand/model): Logitech
Computer Information: HP z440
Did the problem occur after an upgrade of XMBC or Windows?: no
How long have you used XMBC?: less than a month
What language and keyboard layout do you use in Windows?: English / US

Clear description of the problem: Not so much a problem. After changing the default layer setting for one user on a pc. How do i get those changes to apply across all users of that same PC? Every time a new user logs in currently it is clearing any button changes i have made to layer 1.

By default, XMBC saves its settings file in the users appdata folder, so there is a separate file for each user.
However, you can change this behavior, when you install XMBC, you can specify an alternate location, and if that location is a folder that all users have access to, then all users will share the same settings file.

So to do this, uninstall XMBC, reinstall XMBC and when asked where to store the settings file, choose a folder that is common to all users (eg: c:\XMBC or something like that - make sure its a folder that all users have read.write access to (or at least read access if you dont want other users the be able to change settings).

That should do it.

Thanks,
Phil
