scrolling in add/remove ("programs & features") windows error

Post by Kylde » Wed Mar 22, 2017 11:39 pm

I use XMouse to control my volume via mouse-wheel on the desktop, but when I go into "programs & features" to remove/uninstall a program & try to scroll using the wheel it still adjusts the volume, without scrolling in the window. This doesn't happen in other windows, can I make some sort of exception to make the mouse-wheel work as scroll in the "programs & features" window? Windows 10 64 Home, Xmouse 2.15, generic 5-button "tecknet" USB (wired) optical mouse

Thats odd - I'll see if I can recreate here and get back to you on that.
Have you setup the scroll to change volume in the default profile on in a specific profile/layer?

Hi again Phil, thanks for the reply. I don't use layers, (I have never quite understood them to be honest), but the mouse-wheel mute, volume up/down has it's own profile

the default has no definitions:

I should also mention that I use the Clover tabbed-explorer app which sits on top of explorer to give tabbed explorer windows

OK well that makes sense then, because the window profile you have used, explorer.exe,SysListView32,SHELLDLL_DefView is used by multiple windows, including the programs and features view.

Not a bug - you just need to refine your window criteria somewhat.
What window do you want the volume scroll to work on?

Thanks,
Phil

That makes sense :) I only use the mouse-wheel for volume control (& pause on middle-click) on the desktop, for any actual window I would like the mouse-wheel to simply scroll

OK, the windows desktop is just another explorer window - its window class, parent and title do not distinguish it from any other explorer.exe window.

Therefore there is no quick workaround without a code change. I will have to add a special case for the desktop window somewhere....

What really surprises me is that this hasn't come up before!

I'll see what I can do in the next beta!

Thanks,
Phil

OK I have "fixed" it in 2.16 Beta 5 (here)

NOTE: That you will have to edit your desktop profile and re-select the desktop - and it should identify it as explorer.exe (Desktop) now!

Thanks,
Phil

Maybe people thought it was too trivial to worry about ? I know I've put up with it for YEARS (literally), as "just one of those things"

Works perfectly, thank you sir! But, out of curiosity, what are the 4 unlabelled tick-boxes (enabled) in the find window?

You can setup a window profile to be active if the mouse is over any quarter of the window, so you could have a different profile for the top left of the desktop to the bottom right, bottom left etc. Hence the term Window quadrants.

When all are ticked, the profile applies to the whole window area.

Thanks,
Phil

This change isn't sticking :( Xmouse keeps reverting to the pre-beta setting (no mention of "Desktop"):

Image

& I have to use the "find window" target dropper to select desktop:

which changes to this:

this change lasts a while then I have to go through the whole process again

When does it change/go back with no (Desktop)? When you edit it?
There were a few problems between beta 5 and beta 8 (the change broke several other things) but it should be OK now - so I need to understand exactly what is happening so I can try and reproduce it here.

PS. Can you update to the latest beta and make sure its not fixed in that?

It goes back to

OK, please can you explain when it goes back to the text without (desktop). Is it when you are editing, or just it just randomly go back?

It might be useful to turn on debug logging and try and reproduce it - it might give me some more idea of the internal paths its taking.

Thanks,
Phil
