[Sugestion] Store Settings in an .INI file
Hello... I use XMouse an think that is an Excellent program. Is the only software/driver for my 5-buttons mouses.
Usually I use it on 2 or more PC and I think that is a good idea can Store Setting in an .INI file, and move it from one computer to another, backup the preferences, etc.
(Sorry for my poor English... from Chile... LOL )
Thanks
Jerome

I have been looking at storing the settings in a INI or XML file (for other reasons).. but it will take some work as its all pure win32 so no nice native XML support. I don't want to make xmouse into bloatware but it is something I will probably do in a future release.
I cant make any promises on schedule though because xmouse is not my top priority right now.
Thanks,
Phil

I agree... I don't mean an INI file will bloat it, I mean I don't want the code, required to support the ini (or preferably XML) file to bloat it so it will take some thought..
INI may be easier but XML would be my preference!

Re: [Sugestion] Store Settings in an .INI file
A few days ago i format my PC and start with the work of reinstall all my favorite apps.
Looking on the changelog of XMBC, i found this:
Version 1.41:
* Added XML configuration files to hold settings instead of the registry
Excellent news.....
The file is located on:
"C:\Documents and Settings\********\Application Data\Highresolution Enterprises\XMouseButtonControl"
Now i can have all my pcs with the same settings, without have to repeat the process every time.
Thank for this good job.
Best regards
Jerome

Re: [Sugestion] Store Settings in an .INI file
Now i got this question.
It is possible to redefine the location of this "XMBCSettings.xml"??, for example, on another folder different that the "Documents and Settigns" default folder (and prevent possible loses of this data on an OS reinstalation).
May be modifying some value with regedit this will be possible, but I can't find it.
Best Regards
Jerome

Re: [Sugestion] Store Settings in an .INI file
If you run in portable mode, the XML file is located along side the applicaiton which can be anywhere. Other than that, its not currently possible.
Thanks,
Phil

Re: [Sugestion] Store Settings in an .INI file
OK, thanks for the answer.
May be this idea, of redefine the location of "XMBCSettings.xml", could be implemented in a new version of this amazing application.
Best regards

Re: [Sugestion] Store Settings in an .INI file
Maybe... but how best to do it...
The point of the XML file is to avoid registry settings.... but I guess one couldnt hurt too much

I will be waiting for the 1.47...

You are right, it is really a god idea to avoid many registry setting, but this one really means an improvement, especially to prevent lose all the configuration on an unexpected "format c:"

Best regards
Jerome
Re: [Sugestion] Store Settings in an .INI file
Dont count on it being in 1.47.
I have already got that ready to be released so this change may have to wait till 1.48
I know what your saying about the settings - I keep all my stuff on a seperate partition so I dont know why I didnt cosider this in the first place

Same here.... I always create a folder, like "d:/system", and put there all the important setting. BTW a really good tool for windows is "Tweak UI", that's allows to relocate important folders, like "desktop" and stuffphil wrote:I know what your saying about the settings - I keep all my stuff on a seperate partition so I dont know why I didnt cosider this in the first place
Many thanks and best regards

Re: [Sugestion] Store Settings in an .INI file
Tweak UI - Yes I remember that...
That's like sooo XP and earlier!
In Vista and Windows 7 you don't need tweak ui because you can change the locations from within windows explorer (kind'a lucky as TweakUI does not work properly/at all on these OS's). But at the end of the day its only registry settings.
