"Change movement to scroll" the cursor moves

Post by Kanazei » Thu May 11, 2017 6:58 pm

In the mode "Change movement to scroll" while the page is scrolling, the cursor does not move. Can make the option to move the cursor while moving the mouse and scrolling the page? So scrolling would be more convenient. Now we have to tear the mouse away from the table and carry it up to be able to scroll further. With this option, it is not necessary to tear off the table.

You are not the first to ask this, and its already on my todo list, but I'm a little confused, because Isn't that how the default middle button works in Windows, as in leave the middle button set to "nothing, don't intercept) or set any other button to "middle button"?

Im alsi not 100% sure how having the mouse cursor move will work - would you want it to work like the default middle button action and scroll in the direction relative to the start point on some sort of timer?

Scrolling by the middle button is not convenient, the speed is not regulated smoothly, especially in the Microsoft Edge browser, and does not work everywhere (for example, in Explorer). Yours works everywhere, and smooth, and you can set your speed - just great!

I see it so. Assigned to the button "Change movement to scroll". Pressed, you drive the mouse down, the page scrolls. Now the cursor stands still. I would like the cursor to move as if the button is not pressed.

I think that is a good idea :)
And since the "Lock scroll axis" option is already there it would be very convenient indeed if the cursor moves like Kanazei suggests. Of course the current option (fixed cursor while scrolling) should also be available so maybe adding a "tick" box for that would be the most appropriate decision.

And it would be nice to be able to completely block the scrolling along the X axis in the "Change movement to scroll" mode. Just do not take it into account. It is needed rarely, there is enough scrollbars. In some lists, "scrolling down" is equal to "scrolling to the right", and erroneous actions occur.

Hi.
I have a bit of a different stance on treating movements as scrolling as I'm a fond user of a trackpoint on Thinkpads.

There, with Xorg, you have the option to switch to scroll mode with the middle mouse button to scroll in both axes. I miss this feature a lot on windows.
I looked into XMBC because I search a tool that mimics this behaviour on Windows. But a crucial piece is missing…

So first, I find it perfectly fine that the cursor does not move when scrolling. This is exactly what I expect when I use a trackpoint. Because the trackpoint does not move at all when I scroll. ;) Also, this behaviour is common e.g. in audio software to change the value of knobs and sliders. There, the cursor also stays at the point where you clicked as long as you drag.

The missing piece for me is what happens if you click and release the middle mouse without moving the pointer: In this situation, I really miss a simulated click (fake click-release on button release). This way, you can still use the middle mouse button to click and only lose the dragging functionality. I find this highly useful with any browser, for example.

I'd vote for adding an option for the latter feature: Pass though clicks and only switch to drag mode if you move the mouse.

Cheers,

Darius

Hi Darius,

This sounds a little like how button chording works, but I'm guessing that the change movement to scroll wont work with button chording...
I will add it to the todo list to try and allow it to work in this way.

Thanks,
Phil

Hi Phil,
I would be so grateful for that feature… The movement-to-scroll mode already works so niceI
Indeed, it sounds like it differs from button chording because a mouse movement changes what action occurs after releasing the button.

I've added the 'action when no movement was made' feature to 2.17 Beta 1 - check it out in the beta thread on the forum.

Thanks,
Phil

Forwarding the click if the mouse didn't move works great! Thanks a lot!
