Left mouse click randomly stops working

Post by CrimePrince » Thu Apr 06, 2017 12:55 am

For whatever reason XMBC causes my left mouse button to sporadically stop clicking. I'll need to either close XMBC, or CTRL-ALT-DEL and hit task manager for it to start working again. Any idea why this might be the case?

Installed
Windows 10 x64
v2.15
Intel Xeon 1230v3 quad core CPU
16gb
SteelSeries Rival/HID-compliant mouse driver
English/United States

Have you remapped the left button to something or left it set to "Nothing, dont intercept"
Is it only in certain profiles, or default?

It sounds like either the mouse hook is locking up/not responding (but that would effect all clicks, not just the left click) OR the left button is getting "stuck down" that is, a down is sent but not an up, meaning windows thinks the mouse is already pressed when you click it (CTRL+ALT+DEL is known to fix that with keys and mouse buttons) - if its only the left click, first try using "Nothing dont intercept" if its re-mapped.

In the past, this has happened when a profile changes while the button is pressed, but that was a long time ago and generally XMBC should handled that sort of thing these days.

The next/best thing to diagnose it would be to turn on debug logging (settings/updates & logging tab)
then next time the problem occurs, you can send me the log file. The normal (non-debug) log may help but probably not very much. If you do that and send me the debug log, it would be very useful to know the time that the problem occurs so I can easily locate the relevant section in the log file. Also note that debug logging turns off next time XMBC loads because debugging is quite CPU/disk intensive.

Thanks,
Phil

There's the log file. The default layer doesn't touch the left button, but I have two layers (Chrome and Vivaldi) that have it set to button chording

OK I'll try and take a look when I get home from work, but not promises as its been a busy week and I may not get time for XMBC stuff...

To speed things up, any more idea of the time when it wrong, like I asked before?

As soon as the problem occurred I stopped what I was doing and got the log file, so I'm assuming near the end?

Unfortunately near the end is not really good enough - I'm trying to narrow down to the millisecond (or second would be good - heck even the minute is better than nothing...
For example, one minute, 07:42 has over 300 lines of log to trawl though.
How many mouse buttons did it take to get the log; that a lot of log!

What app was active at the time? Did i go wrong when you where chording?
I'm seeing a lot of this: "Unable to stop ChordTimer"

Please can you try 2.16 beta (which is almost ready for release) because if its chording related, I may well have already fixed this.... Its in the 2.16 beta thread in the forum.

Thanks,
Phil
