XMBC v2.15 & FSX

Postby G-KKES » Wed Feb 15, 2017 5:37 pm

Hi Phil

I've recently returned to Flightsimming as I'm building a 737 cockpit at home.
As a result I have been getting back into it, and have been researching updates to my "must have" addons, of which your utility is one.

Since the update I have experiencied lengthy pauses. These are new, irregular and deter online flying.
I'm operating Vista Home Premium. SP2 64bit.

I do use the mouse a lot. I have a 2 button scroll wheel mouse (Dell) and use the scroll wheel depress to select on/zoom, and then roll the mouse to move the eyepoint look. This works brilliantly and as I use the PMDG 737NGX I'm able to move quickly round both the views and the switches. The "hover over" mouse cursur change also allows me to use the scroll wheel to turn the selectors/rotary knobs. Absolutely brilliant.

I read online about problems with mouseclicks vs framerates and the advise was to copy UIAutomationCore.dll into the FSX root folder. I cant say this has helped.

Looking into the XMBC.log I find very many instances of:
12-02-2017 15:58:46.0890> The lock for 'MouseHookLLProc 1' took 213690ms to release!
This is the first of 12 entries, exactly the same timestamp varying in duration from this up to 217855ms
218 secs x 12 is an awfully long time for the MouseHookLLProc to lock!

I've uninstalled the program, cleaned the registry (I notice a few remnants from both instals), and re-installed.
I've just completed a short flight which was troublesome last time as an experiment and all performed well.
The XMBC logfile still includes info from 2009 when I first installed it, so I've missed a few files from the uninstall.

I hope this may help other FSX users.

Thanks for this great little program, I couldn't do without it.

Best wishes

Kev

Wow, 213690ms certainly is a long time - like several minutes!
I can only guess that there was a problem with something in your old config file and the re-install reset that - although XMBC settings are not stored in the registry but an XML file - which normally is persisted across uninstall.install cycles (unless you tick the box to reset settings during installation - did you do that?)

By "since the update" do you mean XMBC 2.15? I'd love to know what caused the problem, and if you happened to have a copy of your old config file, it would be nice if I could analyze it to see if there is a problem I can attempt to fix :).

I'm glad its working now - and I like your username looking very much like an aircraft registration there, although its not current?! (I work in the aviation industry so the pattern meant something to me) :)

Thanks for letting me (and others) know how you resolved your problem.

Phil

Yes, correct. I spent many wonderful hours in a very nice Socata TB-20 bought from Kestrel at Biggin. Since re-registered at Blackpool I believe.

**********Update***********

Sadly it is still occuring.
Once FSX has paused I sometimes can move the mouse cursor, othertimes not.
When FSX is paused (sound persists) the XMBC icon no longer responds to any clicks!

This exerpt from the latest episode.

OK please can you PM/email me a copy of your config file.
Can you also turn on debug logging (settings->logging) and then re-test. Once complete, had a lockup, please PM/email the log file too

I'm very tempted to install FSX here - are the original edition discs still good - I heard some other team has taken up dev for FSX?

Ive been on XPlane more recently!
