Autostart with windows

Post by Retoocs » Tue Oct 14, 2008 1:09 am

I have some problems with autostart with my windows (vista ultimate sp1 32 bit).
I have placed shourcut off a main progarm in starup dir.

When i reboot my computer application starts with windows but do not apply setting that i made.
I must reopen main window from tray and press apply and close.

How to apply settings on startup? :?: :?: :?:

Do you have UAC enabled or disabled?

In Vista, there can be a problem running XMBC with standard user privileges (under UAC) but it shouldn't stop it from working as such, its just that it only works in user level programs and not when a program is launched in elevated mode (run as administrator).

Thanks,
Phil

Sorry I have no idea what could cause this.

You shouldn't have to put it in the startup group (because the installation installs it into the RUN category in the registry). Is XMBC running twice maybe?

But anyway, it makes no sense - no one else has reported such a problem. Usually in Vista I recommend the task scheduler to launch XMBC with admin privileges during log on but if you have disabled UAC then this is pointless. I can confirm that I don't have this problem running in Vista (x86 or x64).

That really is very strange. the installation failed (to put the auto start in the registry) and it does not apply settings properly (also registry based)....

Have you tried removing and re-installing XMouse? I cant think of any thing else that could be causing this one off problem other than something wrong with your machine :(

Again, even stranger - I do not have this problem either.
I wonder if you have some other application that is hooking the mouse after XMouse, and therefore breaking XMouse until you press apply (at which point the hook is re-installed).
Does that mean anything to you? Do you have any other mouse (or keyboard) monitoring/logging/recording/manipulation programs running (and have you checked for malware!)

Thanks,
Phil

Same for me on Vista x64 (except autorun works fine)
I guess it's because I'm using it on my laptop, using an external mouse, so the touchpad's driver "takes priority".
Great software BTW!!!

Hail!

Very nice application, a must have for me, becouse for some reason, if i install the driver of my trust mouse /to be able to utilize each button in every application/ the default 4th and 5th button set is swapped, and it annoys the hell out of me, when i browse.

However unfortunately I have the above stated problem on xp 32, and xp 64 as well...
I've tried reinstalling, but that didn't help. I use /and installed/ the application in admin mode.

My log after a boot looks like this:

25-04-2009 08:44:46> X-Mouse Button Control Startup. Commandline '/notportable'
25-04-2009 08:44:48> Received message with data 0x200 for another instance of X-Mouse Button Control.
25-04-2009 12:16:16> Opening setup dialog.
25-04-2009 12:16:18> Applying changes to X-Mouse Button Control settings...
25-04-2009 12:16:18> Setup dialog closed.

The opening - applying - closing pattern is me manual applying of the preset settings /i presume/. I have to do this after every boot and i wonder if there are any more ideas for the solution.

Thx for the help in advance!

I dont understand how you can have this problem on XP.
This problem relates to the way UAC does not allow admin programs to run using the startup forlder or registry settings.

XP (32bit or 64bit) does not have UAC and has no protection as to what programs can run at startup.

For Vista and Windows 7 I have written a small service which launches XMBC at startup. However, this is not even installed on XP because its not needed.

The log, for what its worth looks fine but then there is not much startup info in the log by default. Does this problem occur if you stop (exit) XMBC and then re-open it using the start menu item (under \highresolution enterprises) ?

Oh, and what version of XMBC are you using?

Hail!

When i stop, and re-open XMBC, it works fine /meaning i don't have to manually apply the presets/, it seems the problem occurs only at the startup.

I'm running XMBC v1.46.

Thx for the fast reply btw. :)

Hi again,
OK this is strange. I don't understand why it does not work properly on XP for you.
I will try and reproduce it here on my virtual machine and get back to you.

On 32bit, what service pack level are you at - sp3, and what language?

I'm working on XMBC right now (making a new installer that has both x86 and x64 in one), hence the quick replies :)

Thanks,
Phil
