A way to allow XMouse to run on Vista with Admin access?

Post by phil » Sun Aug 19, 2007 5:27 pm

As some of you may know, running XMouse on Vista, with UAC enabled allows it to only operate with other non-admin applications. If an application runs with admin privileges, XMouse will NOT control it.

I have found a work around by writing a NT Service to launch XMouse, with admin priveleges at logon BUT this is still under development and has some sever limitations, like not being able to access the users registry keys (ie. where the settings are stored).

However, I have also just found this link on the LCDSmartie forums which suggest using the windows task scheduler to launch an application at logon. This will allow it to be launched with admin privileges.

The info is here
Just found a way to start LDC smartie automatically with full privilages.

In administrative tools goto Task Scheduler and create a new Task.

In general tab...
check Run only when user is logged on
check Run with highest privilages

In triggers tab...
select new and in the drop down tab select At log on

In action tab...
select new and in drop down tab select Start a program.
Fill in as required and add the -hide argument.

In the settings tab...
check 1st 2nd & 4th boxes.

That's the task done.

In LCD smartie make sure it is NOT set to start with windows or Vista will block it! It must only be started via the scheduler.

Works fine for me.

Hope this is of use to someone else.
It's quite possible this will work although I haven't tried it yet, I will give it a go.

If it works for you, let me know :)
